About this experience
Suitable for all skill levels and beginners too, spend your day kayaking in prime marine wildlife habitat along the Haro Strait, between San Juan Island and Vancouver Island. We'll pick you up on Friday Harbor and take you on a beautiful drive across San Juan Island, pointing out highlights of this special place on the way. After an overview of the day and orientation time with our boats and equipment, we'll traverse the waters of migrating salmon keeping our eyes peeled for eagles, seals, porpoises, and other wildlife that follow our keystone species of the Pacific Northwest: Orcas. You'll stop for a lunch break where your guide will prepare a fresh produce-forward meal on the beach while you enjoy a view of the Olympic Mountains and explore the driftwood beaches of Washington's Lime Kiln Point State Park. There's an option at this point for guests to take a short coastal hike. After we return from our adventure out on the water, we'll pack up and take you back to Friday Harbor.

Pleasant outing.
Whales are distinctly unlikely. Seals/sea lions, bald eagles, interesting island geology.. We had very mild weather and entire experience was only moderately taxing for couch potato sextagenarians. Great guide Keith! Nice kayaks.

A Peaceful Day in a Kayak
Everything was great. Our wonderful and helpful guide, Caroline, was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals that live around here. It was the perfect distance for a day trip. And it included a hike to the lighthouse.

We had a great time on...
We had a great time on our tour with lots of wildlife sightings. We were lucky enough to be the only pair on the tour and our guide Chris did a solid job telling us about the area, giving us information on the wildlife, and pacing the tour. We were lucky enough to see a couple of whales as well as seals, eagles, and sea stars Lunch was flavorful, fresh, and healthy, keeping us fueled for the entire adventure!

San Juan Kayaking Tour
Great experience for touring San Juan island. Lots of beautiful scenery and opportunities to spot sea life. Our guide was excellent.

Wonderful day on the...
Wonderful day on the water! The current was a smidge strong going out but my husband and I are experienced kayakers so it wasn't anything we couldn't handle. We saw seals, some came quite close, checking us out. We also saw some river otters. No whales but I figured that was a long shot anyways. Or guide Caroline was amazing and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!

Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Juan Islands.
How much does Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure cost?
+
Prices start at $149 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Juan Islands usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Juan Islands is not rushed.
Is Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 243 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in San Juan Islands, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure?
+
Around 85 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Juan Islands can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Juan Islands and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Full Day San Juan Island Kayaking Adventure start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Juan Islands within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Juan Islands?
+
The San Juan Islands are Washington's whale watching centre: orca and humpback boats, kayak tours through the channels, seaplane trips and island-hopping day tours from Seattle. On Outty we rank every San Juan Islands experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Whale Watching from Friday Harbor, Chuckanut Bay Distillery Tour with 2 Mini Cocktails and Gift Glass, Guaranteed Whale Watching Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Juan Islands?
+
May to September, with peak whale sightings in July and August. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Juan Islands?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
