About this experience
Explore the virgin landscapes of eastern Salalah on a full-day tour with a private guide. Heading east to Wadi Darbat to experience the beauty of this valley and observe seasonal waterfalls. Before that, we stop at Taqah town with its beautiful beach and viewpoint. The tour also includes the unique phenomenon of the Gravity Point where cars go up the hill at Neutral gear (without any acceleration) and huge Baobab trees. Another stop is Tawi Attair Sinkhole which is one of the world’s deepest sinkholes, measuring more than 200 meters from top to bottom, plus Jabal Samhan, the highest point in Dhofar region. The entire drive is on the mountain path, which makes this kind of tour as Mountain Safari Salalah. Watching different kinds of animals roaming around and learning more about southern Oman’s culture from your guide will be another experience besides the lush landscapes of the Dhofar region.

What you'll see and do
Taqah
We start the tour by visiting the magical coastal town of Taqah. It is a beautiful town on the Arabian Sea. The beach is on its southern side. The white sand of the beach, along with coconut trees and cliffs on one side make the place mesmerizing. The beach has lots of birds, making it a bird-watcher paradise. You get a chance also to see old style houses of Dhofar and the panorama view.

Taqah Castle
Taqa Castle. This castle is not the only historical building in the town. Burj Al Askar and Koofan House are other historical sites with amazing tales to tell. You can pay for the entrance to any of these sites (entrance is not covered in the tour cost). If you don’t want to enter, you can experience the place from outside and make this a photo stop.

Wadi Darbat
After that, you will be heading up to Dhofar Mountain to see Wadi Derbat, The most beautiful water Wadi with cows, camels, and goats roaming freely all along the valley waters and mountains. The seasonal waterfall is awesome people can also do a short hike around the area plus boating activities.

Teeq Cave and Tawi Ateer Sinkhole
Through a 20-minute drive from Darbat on the mountains, which are green during the Khareef season, we will reach the site of the sinkhole. This is another popular spot on the Jebel Safari in Salalah. Tawi Attair Sinkhole, which translates as The Birds Well, is a unique place to visit. Tawi Attair is one of the world’s deepest sinkholes, measuring some 200 meters from top to bottom. It is actually so deep that a fifty-floor building can be fit inside it. Probably formed by the collapse of the roof of an enormous subterranean cave in the past.

Jabal Samhan
The next stop will be Jabal Samhan, which is the highest point in the Dhofar region and is above 4000 feet. It is worth noting that the scenery becomes barren near the top, which is a contrast to the plantation you might be seeing on the way from Darbat to Samhan during the drive. Depending on the weather, you may see clouds hugging the cliff of Jebel Samhan or the coast of Mirbat if the weather is clear. The entire drive is on the mountain path where you enjoy the landscape on both sides of the road.
40 minutes here
While descending from the mountains, two noticeable stops will be made. One of them is at Wadi Hanna, where you will discover fine cluster of Baobab Trees. These are African trees and their presence here shows the impressive botanical link of Dhofar with Africa.
60 minutes here
Earth Gravity Controversial
The other site is that of Magnetic Hill, also called Salalah Anti Gravity Point. The car will drive here without any acceleration up to a speed of 40 kilometers per hour in natural gear.

How many days do you need in Salalah?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
