About this experience
Venture deep into Moab’s rugged backcountry for a day of incredible natural wonders, unique rock formations, and thrilling off-road travel. This small-group adventure takes you far beyond the pavement to three of the area’s hidden treasures: Tusher Tunnel – Step into a natural rock tunnel carved by wind and water over centuries. This geological marvel is like walking through a secret stone hallway that opens to sweeping desert views. Monitor & Merrimac Buttes – These two iconic sandstone buttes rise like ancient sentinels above the desert floor, named after Civil War ironclad ships. This is the company to go with
John was so informative about this area! The views were great and he was so understanding with me wanting to take all the pictures that I did. I am a hobbyist landscape photographer and this is one of the best tours I have ever been on that has allowed me all the time that I wanted to take pictures. For a new company they are hands down the most amazing customer service and knowledgeable that I have ever experienced. I found them randomly through Airbnb and I am so glad that I did!

Amazing, Breathtaking, and Fun!!
Awesome off-road experience in Moab! The views were incredible and the ride was a blast. Huge shoutout to our guide Andy—he made the whole tour fun, informative, and safe. Highly recommend!

I can’t recommend this small business enough
I can honestly say the Monitor and Merrimac off-road tour with Nomad Expeditions was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. From the start, this Moab off-road adventure tour delivered way more than I expected. Riding out toward Monitor and Merrimac Buttes felt like stepping into another world, the views are unreal, and the terrain keeps things exciting the entire time. Definitely different compared to Detroit. But what really took it to another level was Wipeout Hill… that climb is no joke! The adrenaline rush of going up it had my heart pounding, and making it to the top felt like a true accomplishment. If you’re looking for an extreme off-road experience in Moab, this is it. Speaking of guides! Andy from Nomad Expeditions is incredible. Not only is he an expert driver who makes you feel completely safe on some pretty intense terrain, but his naturalist interpretation throughout the tour really stood out, he is also extremely smart with languages and I certainly enjoyed him. He didn’t just take us out on the trail, he brought the landscape to life, sharing knowledge about the geology, history, and environment in a way that made you appreciate Moab on a much deeper level. If you’re searching for the best off-road tours in Moab, guided 4x4 adventures, or a truly one-of-a-kind backcountry experience, I can’t recommend Nomad Expeditions enough. I plan on coming back the next time I have an excuse to (probably if I have a business meeting in Salt Lake).

Is Full day Guided Tour of Monitor Merrimack and Tusher Tunnel Sites worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Moab, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book Full day Guided Tour of Monitor Merrimack and Tusher Tunnel Sites?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Moab can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Moab and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Moab within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Moab?
+
Moab is the gateway to Arches and Canyonlands: sunrise arch tours, 4x4 runs on Hell's Revenge, Colorado River rafting, canyoneering and dark-sky stargazing. Park entry timing systems change often, so we weight tours that handle reservations for you. On Outty we rank every Moab experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include HIGHLY RATED U-DRIVE Moab Hell’s Revenge UTV Off-Road Adventure, BEST! Hell's Revenge U-Drive 4X4 Tour in Moab +Dinosaur Tracks!, 5-STAR Moab Hell's Revenge UTV U-DRIVE TOUR + DINO TRACKS. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Moab?
+
April to May and September to October, avoiding peak summer heat. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Moab?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
