Wonderful day in the backwaters and learning to cook

We had an amazing day, starting at sunrise with a boat trip through the backwaters with Sanu, stopping for tea at a local shop and finding a wide variety of birds. After a couple of hours we returned to their base for a delicious Kerala style breakfast prepared by Jess. We then went shopping with Jess in local markets to buy supplies for lunch. Jess is an accomplished chef and guided us through preparation of a superb lunch. He is passionate about preserving Kerala food traditions. After lunch, late afternoon, we headed out on the boat and visited a number of local artisans and to watch the sunset over the lake. Unfortunately a storm came up that cut short our sunset trip. These guys run a great operation and have a well organized website. The location is beautiful and they also have a villa for overnight accommodation. HIghly recommended.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a thoughtful feedback. It means a lot to our endeavors. We are passionate about sharing our authentic local life with you all so we are putting up a lot of thoughts when we are curating our experiences. This cruise is one of them. We had hoped that this cruise package experience might help our patrons to get an immersive local experience. And we are thrilled to know that you have loved it. Thank you! Thanks for being a part of our journey.

    Best possible Kerala excursion

This is an extraordinary tour of the backwaters that takes you in the opposite direction of all the other tours. Indeed, I didn’t see another tourist for the first 8 hours of the excursion. Sanu was very kind and adjusted the tour to fit my interests. The breakfast at the beginning and the lunch at the end were both delicious, the best food I ate while in India for over 3 weeks.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It was our pleasure to share the experience with you.

Best way to experience the Backwater!!!

We were worried that an entire day on the Backwaters would be too much. We were also concerned that it would be very touristy because we'd read reports of so many houseboats. Instead we were blown away. We had an absolutely brilliant day. It was a great call to do the full day trip because it allowed us to travel far away from the tourist houseboats on little canals. In fact we only saw one other tourist boat the entire day. It was a splendid day on the backwaters expertly navigated by Sanu, taking in as much local colour and natural wonder you can soak up in a day. It's a pleasant temperature on the water with a breeze from the boat movement. We got a real taste for village life, we saw lots of birds, were fed delicious food, Sanu sourced beers for us when we were thirsty - our every requirement was anticipated and provided for. What a treat. A real find and we think the very best way to experience the Backwaters! We stayed at Little Chembaka before and after the trip and this really is a special spot!!!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It was our pleasure to have you with us. We are thrilled to know that you have loved the experience here with us. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

    Very happy times at backwaters

We enjoyed every second during our stay .We felt like it was a very private full day trip with village life. We saw the sun rise and the sun set tasting local food. We were encouraged to watch how local dishes were made and have an enjoyable conversation. We are very thankful for this experience!

Canoe Kerala - small day boat trip with cooking class

This was a perfect day out, and nothing was too much trouble. The lovely small boat easily accommodated our family of four for a private tour of the backwaters and the canals. It is very professional, and highly recommend this tour company. we booked the half-day excursion (6hrs ), which included local craftsmanship demonstrations and a gorgeous lunch, hosted and made fresh in the cooking class demonstration. the best food, simply delicious. we en We enjoyed the peace and tranquillity so much that we added a couple of hours on. Sanu called ahead, collected some fresh cold beers, and sailed out onto the lake to watch the sunset.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to know that you have loved the experiences here with us.

Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kochi.

How much does Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food cost?

    +

Prices start at $3000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kochi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kochi is not rushed.

Is Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Kochi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kochi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kochi and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full Day Canoe Cruise with Village Life and Local Food start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kochi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kochi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kochi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Local Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour with Pickup From Cruise Ships. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kochi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kochi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
