A lovely day trip drive to Cholula, PUEBLA and Sapos.
Our driver, Mariana was very good. She was more than sweet and lovely. She did however seem like she was new and a little unsure of some of the trickier directions, through was is admittedly a confusing web of roadways in and out of the big Mexico City. She was very focused and attentive during the longer parts outside of the city. Her English was sufficient but not fantastic. We worked it all out with little issue. This was not a Tour. If a tour is desired this is not your best option. The biggest complaint id make on this experience was that when we arrived at the Cholula Pyramid-ruins gate to check in/pay for entrance to the full museum experience we were very disappointed to learn it was closed the day we visited!! This should have been understood by management. Clearly not our drivers fault. We did walk up the steep ramp to the top of the “pyramid” to the gorgeous Church atop it. Unlike the tour/visit we made to the other main Pyramid attraction near CDMX (Mexico City), Teotihuacan, this pyramid is overgrown with dirt and grass, etc and only a small area is visible. The models showing more details is the part we missed because it was closed. In spite of this, walking up to the church atop the top was still fascinating as well as a good cardio workout. The shopping area nearby on the ground level had some nice Stores and all was very not crowded. Not sure if that was because we arrived early or other factors… our pickup was “early” at 7:15 am and we arrived about 9:30am. Left the area just before 11:00am. From Cholula we drove to Puebla and Sapos (both in same area). Both areas were fun and interesting. The huge cathedral was massive and awe inspiring. The town had multiple blocks that were closed to traffic and very lovely and varied. Puebla area is a relatively large town and has a lot to do. Our main regret there and Sapos was not having more time to spend there. I’d recommend staying in Puebla a FULL day or 2 and perhaps driving to Cholula from there for 1/2 a day…. Sapos area is just a few blocks that are very colorful and filled with vendors selling all sorts of things….some crafts and some were more like a garage sale. The day was very enjoyable and Mariana was a reliable and very pleasant driver. A tour (private or group) may have added more depth if they are available. However I’m sure that would cost more.

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula cost?
+
Prices start at $66 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does From Mexico City: Private Day Trip to Puebla & Cholula start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
