Lower Falls, the biggest waterfall in Yellowstone at 308-feet tall, is the most famous waterfall in the park. The canyon’s colors were created by hot water acting on volcanic rock. It was not these colors, but the river’s yellow banks at its distant confluence with the Missouri River, that occasioned the Minnetaree Indian name which French trappers translated as roche jaune, yellow stone. The canyon has been rapidly downcut more than once, perhaps by great glacial outburst floods.

    Fantastic day at Yellowstone!

We had a fantastic day touring Grand Tetons and Yellowstone national parks. We saw a huge bull moose, elk, deer, marmot, eagle, and bison. We arrived just in time to see Old Faithful erupt, toured other geysers, saw the beautiful Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the lake. We had a nice lunch picnic by a creek and got stopped on our way back by bison crossing the road in front of us. Our guide Phil was wonderful. He knew all the history and science behind all the places we stopped and everything we saw. He needs a raise, he was great. We had great weather and loved seeing so much in one day. Thank you.

    What a Blast!

Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about everything we saw. It was a long day but he kept it moving and we dodged all the traffic in the park. One of the most unforgettable things I have ever done.

    Fantastic day in Yellowstone

We had a fabulous time on our day trip to Yellowstone. On the way we stopped in Grand Tetons and saw a bull moose. We made it to Old Faithful at the perfect time to see it erupt. We saw more geysers and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone as well as the huge lake. Along the way were deer, elk a marmot and hundreds of bison. Our guide Phil was so knowledgeable, he knew both the history and science about everything. He was great and deserves a raise! Thanks for a wonderful day!

How many days do you need in Jackson?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
