    What you'll see and do

    1. Chinese Fishing Nets

Chinese fishing nets (Cheena vala) are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as "Chinese fishing nets" in India, the more formal name for such nets is "shore operated lift nets". Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20 m or more across. Each structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each installation is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century.

    Engaging and Informative Tour

Our guide took us to multiple brief stops of the main highlights of Fort Kochi. He is fluent in English and answered all of our questions. He also made a few stops based on what we wanted (cafe, tapestry hop, craft shop and pizza place). It was very personalized army my kids said it was one of the highlights of our time here in Kochi. Thank you, sir for making it a fun morning and getting us through a lot of the popular sites in the area.

Shibab makes Fort Kochi the most incredible experience!

This is the 2nd visit to Fort Kochi and 2nd time hiring Shibab Chibu as my driver/guide. His service is excellent. He met from the train, as It was late recommended a local place to get a bite to eat before taking us to our accommodation. The next day we we had a lovely blend on enjoying the Biennale Arts festival as well as the local sites. He had fantastic recommendations for food and was very knowledgeable about the local history. He made this part of the trip one of the most memorable and stress free chapters. I would highly recommend his services to anyone visiting Fort Kochi

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the Tuk-Tuk tour. It was our pleasure to show you around. We hope to welcome you back again soon!" Best regards Forte kochi Tuk-Tuk tour

    BEST tuktuk tour!

Shihab was absolutely amazing and was very trustworthy. As a woman traveling alone I felt extremely safe. He was very knowledgeable and took me around to the best spots for sight seeing, best local food spots as well as shopping. He even treated me to the best samosa chat I had in Kochi. I cannot recommend this service enough. Thank you Shihab Bhai for everything

Fantastic tour of Fort Kochi in tuk-tuks! Definitely recommend!

A group of us had a free day during our business trip and wanted to check out Fort Kochi so I looked for a Tuk-Tuk tour guide ahead of time instead of taking our chances when we arrived. We are so glad we did as Shahir, Shihab and their friend were amazing! Not only were they professional and polite, they were so much fun and shared so many stories and info about Fort Kochi. The tour was a great mix of historical sights and cultural moments with a few impromptu shopping moments in between. There is no way we would have had as good of a trip on our own, so do yourself a favor and book a tour with them!!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for choosing our tour! We're thrilled you enjoyed the scenic views and guide expertise. Wishing you a wonderful journey ahead🙏

Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kochi.

How much does Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $9 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kochi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kochi is not rushed.

Is Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 88 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 98 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Kochi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour?

    +

Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kochi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kochi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Fort Kochi Local Sightseeing Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kochi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kochi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kochi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Local Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour with Pickup From Cruise Ships. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kochi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kochi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
