How Frank Turned Our Solo Tour Into an Amazing Experience

Bashir and I visited the Forbidden City today with the plan of navigating everything by ourselves. Luckily, we met Frank, who approached us speaking very clear English and offered to be our tour guide — and honestly, it made the entire experience so much better. Frank helped us with everything, from booking our tickets into the Forbidden City to explaining the rich history behind the palace in a very interesting and easy-to-understand way. He also took us around the local market and even helped us find an African restaurant afterward, which was the perfect way to end the day. Very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable guy. If you ever visit Beijing and need someone to help make your experience smooth and enjoyable, we highly recommend Frank!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience. We are delighted to hear that your visit to the Forbidden City became even more memorable with Frank's assistance. Frank is passionate about helping visitors discover Beijing's history and culture, and we are pleased that his guidance, historical explanations, and local recommendations enhanced your day. It is wonderful to know that he was able to assist with ticket arrangements, introduce you to local markets, and help you find a restaurant that suited your preferences. Your kind words about his friendliness, patience, and knowledge mean a great deal to us. We truly appreciate your recommendation and are honored to have been part of your Beijing experience. We hope to welcome you back to Beijing in the future and assist you with many more unforgettable adventures.

    Great tour guide

Frank gave an excellent tour of Forbidden City. He spoke English very well. Took us to a tea tasting which was a nice experience. He booked tickets for us for Chaoyang acrobatics show, Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square. Although I have WeChat, I couldn't book the tickets myself because it's in Chinese. Frank was able to get me discounted VIP tickets for the acrobatics show because he's a tour guide. Frank is very personal, very helpful and provides great service. I will definitely use his services again the next time I visit China. Thank you Frank!

Response from the operator: Dear Ahsan, Thank you very much for your thoughtful and detailed review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Forbidden City tour with Frank and appreciated his English communication, assistance, and personalized service. It is wonderful to know the arrangements helped make your visit smooth and enjoyable. Frank is dedicated to providing attentive and professional service to every guest, and we are very pleased that he made your experience in Beijing memorable. We truly appreciate your trust and kind recommendation, and we look forward to welcoming you again on your next visit to China.

Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Forbidden City & Summer Palace Private One Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
