Fishing experience without fishing
They took us in the afternoon, that is really not advised because it gets dark very soon in the winter. The fishing experience lasted 30 minutes, then the guide went to light the fire. I guess because he realised there was no fish at all in the lake. So at the end we 160 euros to make a hole in the lake, with the agency saying that that was the experience. We just got cold and remain very far away from a real fishing experience. They did not give us even a partial refund of the price paid! It was really a robbery! Try to avoid this agency
Response from the operator: Dear Valerio, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations, and we would like to clarify a few important points for transparency. First, you contacted us around 12:30 on the same day, requesting a last-minute afternoon tour to fill your time before your flight. As you insisted to get an experience in the afternoon, we managed to organize a guide specifically for you, including pick-up at Santa Claus Village, so that you could enjoy an activity before heading to the airport. You were aware that it would be dark, as this is the natural condition at this time of year, and you had stayed in Rovaniemi already for a few days. After reviewing the situation with the guide, the fishing time lasted approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. It could have continued longer, but you expressed that you were cold, bored, and quite impatient to catch a fish, so the guide made a fire in a traditional teepee with hot juice and snacks, and gave you time to warm up. You were offered the possibility to return to the lake and continue the fishing, but you declined. As we always explain, ice fishing requires patience and luck. You insisted several times during the tour on wanting a “fish guarantee”, which is unfortunately impossible in any real fishing activity (unless it is not a "natural" spot for fishing...). Over the past days, most groups have been lucky and caught fish, but this depends entirely on nature. The value of the tour is the experience itself: being on a frozen lake, surrounded by silence and Arctic nature, learning a local activity, enjoying the beauty around. Catching a fish is always a bonus, not a guarantee. You also told us over the phone that the guide was excellent, and we appreciate that acknowledgment. Finally, it is important to mention that you began calling to request a refund before the tour had even ended, while you were still inside the warm teepee and still had the option to continue the activity. During these calls, you requested a full refund, then a 50% refund, then a detour to the airport, and warned that you would leave a negative review if these were not granted. We always aim to provide honest, respectful service and memorable experiences. We regret that your expectations did not match the nature of an authentic ice fishing activity, but we stand by the fact that the tour was delivered as described and adapted as much as possible to your own requests and comfort. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Warm regards, The Nordic Odyssey Team

Great discoveries for young and old!
Many thanks to Gabriel for his good humor and generosity. She is really a nice person with whom have could spend several days expeditions without being bored. Fishing takes a lot of patience and despite the cold we have not seen the time spent with our children. Then we gathered around the fire to enjoy a barbecue based on vegetable steaks for vegetarians and sausages for those who love meat. I recommend this activity with friends or family!

Chilly fishing
We got what it said on the tin. However there were no fish and told they hadn’t caught anything all winter. It was good to make the hole with the equipment and have an insight to how it’s done. Scenery is pretty but it was very cold. So wrap up warm. This was the only tour left ideally we wanted the bbq tour but it got cancelled on us twice before. The guide was nice and pick up was timely etc. for me this trip was nothing to write home about.

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.
How much does First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi cost?
+
Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.
Is First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does First Ice Fishing Experience in Rovaniemi start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?
+
On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
