Great Ice Fishing Experience (Despite No Catch)
This ice fishing tour was a unique and enjoyable experience, even though I didn’t catch any fish—apparently, I’m the only one so far this season who hasn’t 🙃 Jake, my guide, was fantastic. He picked me up promptly, shared interesting insights about life in Fairbanks, and made the experience as engaging as possible. I do wish I could have been there from the start to watch the process of drilling the fishing holes—it would have been fascinating to see the setup. Jake mentioned that November and April (or possibly March) are the best months for fishing when the fish are more abundant. If I ever return to Fairbanks during those times, I’ll definitely give it another try. Overall, this tour is a great choice for anyone looking to try something new and get a glimpse of life in Alaska during winter!
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the ice fishing tour, even though the fish weren't quite as cooperative this time. It sounds like Jake made the trip engaging and memorable, and we truly appreciate your kind words about him. We understand the curiosity about the setup process, and we'll keep that in mind for future tours! We hope to welcome you back during the peak months for fishing to give it another go. Thanks again for the recommendation, and we hope to see you again in Fairbanks soon!

Unprofessional tour operator. Disappointed and frustrated customer!!!!
I had a tour scheduled with Reel Alaskan adventures for the ice fishing through Viator. The tour company did not confirm a pickup time or window which every company does.I was scheduled for a 1pm tour. From 12 pm I had been trying to reach the tour operator and they wouldn’t answer the call. I was waiting in the hotel lobby for pick up from 12.40 pm until 1.30 pm calling the tour company while constantly being in touch with Viator customer service who were also trying to reach the tour company with no luck. Ultimately I never did the ice fishing tour and now I’m awaiting for a full refund for a tour I never did and for no fault of mine
Response from the operator: Thanks for your quick review , sorry you had such a bad time, but all tours where canceled for that day and given a 100% refund on the account of a severe winter storm advisory that was reaching -60F with wind chills . You were also offered to reschedule at no cost.

Why this scores 51
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fairbanks.
How much does Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation cost?
+
Prices start at $185 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fairbanks usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fairbanks is not rushed.
Is Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Fairbanks, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fairbanks can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fairbanks and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Fairbanks Ice Fishing with Transportation start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fairbanks within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Fairbanks?
+
Fairbanks is the aurora capital of interior Alaska: heated viewing lodges, late-night chase tours, Arctic Circle day drives up the Dalton Highway, dog sledding and summer riverboat cruises. On Outty we rank every Fairbanks experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights - Aurora with FREE Photos - Arctic Night Tours, Dog Sledding and Mushing Experience in North Pole, Fairbanks Ice Fishing Expedition in a Heated Cabin with Fish Cookout. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Fairbanks?
+
Late August to April for aurora, June to August for midnight-sun river trips. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Fairbanks?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
