Great

I had a wonderful experience in Rotorua today, and I would especially like to compliment Aaron. He was an excellent guide — very professional, friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the entire day. He made sure everything went smoothly from beginning to end and was always very considerate of our comfort and experience. We visited some beautiful places, enjoyed amazing views, and Aaron’s knowledge and attention made the whole tour even more enjoyable. I was very impressed with his service and genuinely appreciated the way he conducted the tour. Please pass along my compliments and thanks to him. He did an outstanding job and represented Expedigo extremely well. Thank you again for a great experience!

A Very Enjoyable Day!

We loved every aspect of this experience, except for the very long journey, 3 1/2 hours each way. That's obviously not anything under the tour operator's control, but it's worth bearing in mind before you book. The van is comfortable enough but we were both awfully stiff and achy the following day. We did think that a better rest stop could have been chosen for the way back. The place we stopped was only about an hour before getting back to Auckland and there was literally nothing there except toilets and an odd McDonald's. The rest stop on the way, however, was brilliant, featuring an excellent café with incredible homemade baked goods, called Ronnie's. The driver, Jason, picked us up promptly. He had a very complicated job ensuring that all of the tour participants got to their selected tours once the tour group arrived in Rotorua. Everyone is shuttled off to their first selected location and then picked up later, to be taken to their second location, and then everyone is collected at the end. My friend and I had chosen the Rotorua Maori Village with Haka and Hot Springs tour. The village was fascinating and we definitely recommend a visit. The tour (our guide was Uncle Philip, everyone in the village is related in some way) was interesting and we got to sample sweetcorn that had been cooked to perfection, dunked for about 10 seconds in one of the hot pools as we watched. Best sweetcorn we've ever tasted, thanks to the minerals in the water. Seeing the steam rising from people's gardens, the various pools and the geysers, and even an ancestral tomb or two was a unique experience! The cultural show was impressive and a lot of fun. The performers obviously really enjoy participating in the show! The Haka was especially brilliant. I would have happily watched it again and again. Jason was there to meet us afterwards and took us to our next stop, the Polynesian Spa. This was enjoyable, several different natural pools of varying temperature. Very relaxing and the rocky bottoms of the pools have been smoothed, which I was happy about. Nice for sitting in the shallow water and comfortable for wading. Pretty views from the pools. We loved it! I was a bit surprised that we only had an hour here, as I had thought I read that it was two hours. One hour felt somewhat rushed, as the last 10 minutes are lost showering and changing. Luckily, we had worn our bathing costumes under our clothes, or we would have lost more of that hour getting ready. There is a nice café here too, but I was just able to get an iced coffee to go as we needed to be off to collect another group elsewhere. Overall, we loved this tour and both of us wouldn't hesitate to book it again someday.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful review—we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We completely understand your comments about the travel time. Rotorua is a bit of a journey from Auckland, and while the distance isn’t something we can change, we do try to make the day as comfortable and enjoyable as possible along the way. Your feedback about the return rest stop is really helpful as well—we’ll definitely take that on board. Great to hear Jason looked after everything so well. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes coordinating everyone’s different activities, so it’s nice to know that came across smoothly on the day. It’s awesome you enjoyed the village experience with Uncle Philip—that sweetcorn is always a highlight! And glad the haka and cultural performance left such an impression too. Thanks as well for pointing out the timing at the Polynesian Spa—we’ll review how we’re setting expectations there. Really glad to hear you both had such a great day overall. Thanks again for travelling with us—we’d love to have you back anytime.

Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.

How much does Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs cost?

+

Prices start at $180 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs take?

+

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.

Is Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 59 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs?

+

Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ex Auckland: Rotorua Māori Village with Haka and Hot Springs start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Auckland?

+

On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Auckland?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Auckland?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
