About this experience

Explore Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano, with a guided adventure through lava fields and ancient craters. After pick-up from Catania or Taormina, begin with the visit of a volcanic lava cave equipped with helmets and torches. The experience continues with an ascent by 4x4 bus, accompanied by authorized volcano guides, reaching about 2900 metres with spectacular views over the summit craters and the Sicilian coastline. You will also enjoy an easy panoramic walk near the volcanic area and discover the fascinating landscapes created by the 2002 eruption. A lunch stop at a mountain snack bar is possible at the end of the excursion. This tour allows you to reach the highest accessible areas of Etna without demanding physical effort. However, due to the high altitude and irregular mountain tracks, it is not recommended for pregnant women, babies under 4 years old, or people suffering from asthma, heart or respiratory problems.

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Catania?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
