Amazing carvings with interesting back stories

The trip to Elephanta Island is definitely worth it. We took the main ferry which is an experience in itself. Ensure you go early as it gets extremely busy as the day goes on. Our guide was fantastic and made sure we were safe and looked after purchasing tickets and discussing items with the stall owners for us.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for the review! We are so glad you enjoyed the ferry ride and felt well-looked after by our guide. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to the team.

Fabulous private tour which made us feel safe and well guided. We learned so much- 5 stars

We had the most fantastic Elephanta cave private tour. After speaking with Ali via what’s app ( very easy) we decided to book a speedboat which only took 20 mins instead of an hour each way. He organised a specialist guide who grew up on the island and explained each statue in detail. We even did an ‘Ohmmmm’ exercise in one of the temple chambers. Later we went back to walk a bit the streets and had late lunch in Cafe Ferdinand where we enjoyed real local cuisine (not included in the price of the tour - very well priced 6000 rupees for 3 ppl including drinks). He then showed us the most expensive hotel in Mumbai (The Taj Mahal 5 Star hotel) and we felt we earned a cocktail in there. He organised us a nice table next to the window where we enjoyed a signature cocktail and watched the sun go down and the lights on the ‘Gateway of India’ coming up. What a special day and all the knowledge he shared with us! So the cocktails were of course on us (around 1500/2000 rupees for signature drinks - we enjoyed the Crooner and he a Coco-Mocktail which looked AMAZING). All in all he was brilliant, very knowledgeable, speaks perfect English and nothing is too much to ask. Even some detours we added. Tomorrow he has planned a special treat for us as he will show us a neighbourhood in the ‘slum’ which isn’t a slum to show us where his drive for his business comes from! He always made sure we were left alone by local businesses and found good deals for us and negotiated on our behalf - as two women travelling alone - that made us feel really safe. We found our best guide here! Highly recommended

Response from the operator: That sounds like a truly spectacular private tour to the Elephanta Caves and a wonderful evening! 🌟 It's fantastic that Ali organized a speedboat and an insightful, local guide, making the experience efficient and deeply meaningful (especially the 'Ohmmmm' exercise!). Ending the day with cocktails at The Taj Mahal Palace as the sun set over the Gateway of India must have been a magical moment. Ali sounds like an absolutely brilliant guide—knowledgeable, attentive, and making sure you felt safe and got great deals. I hope your special visit to the neighborhood tomorrow is just as insightful!

Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mumbai.

How much does Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way cost?

    +

Prices start at $7000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mumbai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mumbai is not rushed.

Is Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mumbai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mumbai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mumbai and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Elephanta Caves & Island: Your Tour, Your Way start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mumbai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mumbai?

    +

On Outty we rank every Mumbai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Elephanta Caves & Island Guided Private Tour, Dharavi Slum Tour, Mumbai: Dharavi Slum & Dhobi Ghat Laundry Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mumbai?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mumbai?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
