About this experience

Elephanta Caves Tour focuses on learning about the Hindu God Lord Shiva. Different statues dating back to the 4th-5th centuries BC can be found in the caves, which are situated on Elephanta Island, about 10 km and an hour by boat from the Gateway of India. The Portuguese named the Island ‘Elephanta’ after the statue of an elephant near the landing site. The caves house rock-cut temples dating back to the 5th century. Elephanta Island has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 to preserve the artwork. The Elephanta caves complex is a collection of shrines, courtyards, inner cells, great halls, and porticoes arranged in the magnificent symmetry of Indian rock-cut architecture and filled with exquisite stone sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses.

Mumbai - Moments to remember! Book them!!!

Chose Mumbai Moments on the back of swift message response and great conversation over the phone. Ameesh was super invested in us having a great experience, checking in prior and during our 2 days of activities, even meeting afterwards in person to wish us well and thank us personally! Our tour started immediately after airport pickup to the Gateway of India and the Elephanta Caves by our driver Lailu (honest, reliable and safe driving - salute Lailu bhai 🫡 Manoj our guide for the caves was very knowledgeable and made the tour very comfortable and informative! Take the train after the boat ride!... The 120 steps will test you! 😁 Second day we met our guide for the day, Kamlash, great knowledge of Mumbai and the slums, the Bollywood Tour was great fun - we dressed up and even took part in a Bollywood dance number - thank you Kamlash sir 👍 Recommend Mumbai Moments for a custom experience where they will actually take ownership of your time and comfort with them and guide you to the highlights of Mumbai Final day - dropped off to the airport by our driver Pappu - again very knowledgeable and safe. Mumbai Moments - They go the extra mile - booked dinner reservation through Ameesh for Bastion at the Top. Everyone that we encountered from Mumbai Moments was always respectful and courteous! Thank you all for a great Mumbai Moment! Will look at the gift and remember you all fondly. 👍🙏😊

BEST TOUR EVER

I cannot say enough good things about this tour! It was seriously one of the best tours I have ever been on! Amish, the owner of the company, was very kind and accommodating. He really wants people to experience Mumbai and this tour did just that! My guide for this tour was AK and he was fantastic!! He was so knowledgeable about the caves. He literally answered any possible question I had. He was also extremely kind. I went alone on this tour and both AK and Amish made me feel safe the entire time. This was honestly one of the best tours ever! I would recommend this tour and this company to anyone!!

⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE

Fantastic experience. Amish was able to organize the whole excursion at very short notice. Considering the full service (pick-up, ferry, tickets to the caves, water bottles, private guide, drop-off) I paid a very good price, definitely lower than the market prices for the same tour. The driver came to pick me up sharp at the agreed time, and we shoot off to visit the majestic caves. Avi was my guide: very knowledgeable and kind. It really felt like an exclusive experience and you are looked after the whole time. Amish is a very kind individual an I met him after the trip where he even offered me a tasty chai and gave me a wonderful gift to conclude my trip. Im looking forward to my next organized tour with Mumbai Moments and I could not recommend them enough.

Amazing tour and guide!

What an amazing tour! The caves and carvings are awe inspiring and worth seeing on their own, but what made this special was having Avinash as our guide. As a local to the island, he is very knowledgable about the history and spiritual significance of the site, and is such a pleasure to talk to. I’m truly grateful that we got to experience this!

Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mumbai.

How much does Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mumbai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mumbai is not rushed.

Is Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Mumbai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mumbai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mumbai and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Elephanta Caves Cruise Group Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mumbai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mumbai?

+

On Outty we rank every Mumbai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Elephanta Caves & Island Guided Private Tour, Dharavi Slum Tour, Mumbai: Dharavi Slum & Dhobi Ghat Laundry Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mumbai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mumbai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
