    What you'll see and do

    1. Calton Hill

Also known as Monument Hill, this is a fantastic spot to look over Edinburgh. From here, you’ll be able to see Edinburgh Castle, Leith, the Old Town and the New Town. You might recognise the Monument from pictures, postcards or Pinterest, and that’s exactly why you’ll love this part of the tour. It’s a beautiful spot where your guide can tell you all about the history of Edinburgh - and point out all the landmarks as you go.

      60 minutes here

    2. Dean Village

A true hidden gem, Dean Village is somewhere you might miss if travelling alone. With Hopscotch, we’ll make sure you see all the best sights and make memories to last a lifetime. Upon entering Dean Village, you’ll be transported into another world, where cobbled streets and quaint houses sit on the banks of the Water of Leith. Historically, the village milled water and grains, and you can still spot many of the remains if you know where to look - and our guides do.

      60 minutes here

    3. New Town

Although the New Town is not so ‘new’, it was originally built in the 1700s to give the wealthy a place to stay out-with the crowded streets of the city. All through the area, you’ll see typical examples of Georgian Townhouses and architecture and it’s now classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

      30 minutes here

    4. Old Town

The Old Town of Edinburgh is perhaps the most famous. Here you’ll get to see Edinburgh Castle, the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile and maybe St Giles’ Cathedral. The Castle is not part of the tour, but we can organise it if you’d like. We want to help you have the best, possible experience in Edinburgh!

      90 minutes here

    5. Arthur's Seat

At the top of this volcanic Cragg, you’ll get spectacular birds-eye views over Edinburgh and the surrounding hills. Your guide will point out the New Scottish Parliament Building and Holyrood Palace - the official residence for King Charles.

      30 minutes here

    6. Leith

Contrasting old with new, Edinburgh is full of surprises. In Leith, you’ll get to see both sides with Edinburgh’s ports and docks. It’s also in Leith where Mary Queen of Scots’ first arrived back in Scotland after her time in France. You can imagine it looks very different today.

      30 minutes here

    7. Palace of Holyroodhouse

Get up close to the splendid Holyrood Palace as your personal guide shares its rich history, royal connections, and the stories behind its stunning architecture

Wonderful Day Trip with Hopscotch Travel

This was an excellent tour. Michael was very engaging and knowledgeable about all the areas we toured as well as providing some great stories on the history of Scotland and the places we visited. The transportation van was very comfortable for our group of 6. We would highly recommend this tour and when we visit Scotland again, Hopscotch Travel will be our first call.

Response from the operator: Thank you for leaving a lovely review - we hope to welcome you back to Scotland soon.

    Accessible Edinburgh

Wow, what a tour!! We had a private tour of Edinburgh by Hopscotch travel from the South Queensferry cruise port. Our guide Swain contacted us on the day of our tour to confirm pick up location and time. He was a great guide, very knowledgeable and fun. I use a wheelchair, and Swain was very helpful in finding accessible options for us to visit.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review - we're so happy to read that you had a lovely time with Swain. Safe onward travels.

    Accessible Edinburgh

This was one of the best tours we have taken. We were able to see the sights in Edinburgh at our own pace. I use a wheelchair part time. Our guide was very helpful in getting the chair in and out of the vehicle, and was able to give great directions for the path most easily accessible by wheelchair. I would highly recommend Swain from Hopscotch Tours.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review. Helping you is all part of the service and I'm delighted to read you enjoyed your day.

Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.

How much does Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV cost?

    +

Prices start at $613 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.

Is Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Edinburgh: Privately Guided Day Tour of Edinburgh in Luxury MPV start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

    +

On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

    +
