What you'll see and do
Mount Qingcheng
Option 1: For this option, you will visit the No. 1 mountain in west Sichuan-Mt. Qingcheng. So as the name "Mountain with Greens", the mountain is 98% covered by forests to be a natural oxygen bar. We will drive 1.5 hours from Chengdu downtown to Mt. Qingcheng and then walk about 1 hour to Yuecheng Lake. We will visit Jianfu temple on the way. The lake is right at the bottom of Summit Zhangren and it was formed by underground spring. The mist on the lake and the surrounds makes great picture in the morning. After that lake, we can catch the cable to the middle of mountain in 10 mins and then walk another 40 mins to the mountain top-Laojun Palace. You will have a bird eye of the whole Chengdu plain if the weather is good. In the end, we will follow the same way back the parking lot.

Dujiangyan Panda Park
Option 2: In this option, you can visit the much less crowded panda base at Dujiangyan. There is a panda base in Chengdu downtown, however, it is also the most crowded panda base as it is the closed one from Chengdu city center. You normally need to wait hours no matter how early you leave from your hotel. There are always hundreds of Chinese tourists are earlier than you(someone reach the pandas at 6:30 am to wait for the opening at 7:30 am). On the other hand, Dujiangyan is cooler than Chengdu downtown as it is at a higher mountain. You know, pandas are more active in the cooler weather. So, you can see the more active pandas in Dujiangyan panda base but with much less crowds.

Dujiangyan Irrigation System
In the afternoon, we will visit the other part of the UNESCO's nature and culture heritage- Dujiangyan irrigation system. It is the older man-made irrigation system which benefits Sichuan for nearly 2300 years and it is working now. Our guide will show you around the park and share you all the backgrounds such as how the irrigation system working, how it became a livelihood project from a military strategy, who the founder of this massive system is, what ancient Chinese intelligence and philosophy are, etc. Once you enjoyed with the journey, we will escort you back your Chengdu hotel at around 18:00.

Fascinating and...
Fascinating and educational tour. Incredible to see a water management system that's lasted over 1500 years and is still in use. Plus the pandas were worth the long drive.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience and we look forward to working for you again in the future.

Great Visit to Mt Qingcheng and Dujiangyan
We chose this tour together with one visiting the Panda Reserve and the Sanxingdui Museum. Originally, this tour was planned for our second day, but because of an event happening near the museum, the agency suggested swapping the two days. The change worked very smoothly and everything stayed well organised. This tour took us to Mt Qingcheng, an important spiritual center for Taoism, and to the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project. Mt Qingcheng was quite busy, but because of the mist the mountain had a slightly mysterious and atmospheric feeling, which made the visit quite special. The Dujiangyan Irrigation Project was also fascinating, especially when understanding how advanced the engineering was so many centuries ago. Our guide and driver Victor was very informative, spoke excellent English, and everything was punctual and arranged in a very efficient way. We also enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant, where we tried dishes typical of the area, which were all delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Taoism and the impressive history and engineering of the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the detailed reviews. We look forward to working for you again.

A great day tour from Chengdu
We did the Pandas and then the Irrigation system - a really good combination. The Dujiangyan panda base is quieter than the Breeding centre in Chengdu. Really easy to see the Giant and Red Pandas. The Irrigation system was interesting, lovely views, lots of walking and the Taoist temple was beautiful. Our guide Cora was lovely and driver excellent.

Private family tour to Chengdu/ Jiuzhaigou
Our family used Real China Travel for our private Chengdu/ Jiuzhaigou tour in July 2025 . Victor is very knowledgeable about the attractions in and around Chengdu. He makes every stop interesting, especially the Dujiangyan irrigation project. It has certainly left us with deeper understanding of the project. We also appreciate him guilding us to the most interesting sites first when time runs short. Would highly recommend Real China Travel and Victor for anyone considering travelling to Chengdu.

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chengdu.
How much does Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chengdu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chengdu is not rushed.
Is Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chengdu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chengdu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chengdu and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Dujiangyan irrigation+Mt. Qingcheng or Panda Park Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chengdu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chengdu?
+
On Outty we rank every Chengdu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Chengdu Cooking Class with a Local Market Visit, Private Chengdu Day Tour: Giant Pandas and Jinsha Site Museum, Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chengdu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chengdu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
