    What you'll see and do

    1. Chengdu

There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).

    2. Chengdu

End the night trying house-made plum wine in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.

    MUST try food tour

Chris was an absolute legend, he was so friendly, such a good chat and was so informative. This was my first food tour and not something I would normally consider but Chris completely changed my mind. The food was amazing, the tour was lots of fun and this was a highlight of my trip. We got some souvenirs, unlimited drinks and further reccomendations for our trip. This tour is a MUST if in chengdu!

Response from the operator: What a great first food tour you had in Chengdu! It’s lovely to hear that Chris’s friendly, informative chat made such a difference for you, and that the food and extra recommendations were part of your trip highlight.

    Fantastic!

Fiona was an awesome guide! We had a great time with her on the food tour and ate lots of delicious food. There was 1 small hiccup with some raucous drunk locals but it was all good in the end. Certainly not enough to spoil what was an excellent experience however!

Response from the operator: Fiona being awesome clearly made your Chengdu evening stand out! We’re really glad the tour still felt excellent for you, and that the food and the night with her left such a strong impression.

Best thing we did in Chengdu!

Fantastic experience! Gave us an opportunity to try a bunch of local cuisine while explaining the origins of the food…. All while cruising around town in a wicked tuk tuk! Admission Fee seemed expensive before the adventure, but we got lots of food and drinks so afterwards we think is was very reasonable! It was a good length of tour, ran at a good pace! Our guide was awesome! She was very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic! We plan on doing more lost plate tours in other cities now!

Response from the operator: What a fun Chengdu night you had in that tuk tuk! It was great to read that the mix of local cuisine and the stories behind the food made the experience feel so worth it for you. You set the pace perfectly, and it landed that way.

Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chengdu.

How much does Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats cost?

    +

Prices start at $73 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chengdu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chengdu is not rushed.

Is Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 86 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 492 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Chengdu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats?

    +

Around 172 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chengdu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chengdu and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tuktuk Food Tour Through Chengdu's Local Eats start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chengdu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chengdu?

    +

On Outty we rank every Chengdu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Chengdu Cooking Class with a Local Market Visit, Private Chengdu Day Tour: Giant Pandas and Jinsha Site Museum, Dujingyan Panda tour option Giant panda or Red Panda Keeper. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chengdu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chengdu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
