The Spire
We meet beside the Spire (the big needle) in the middle of O'Connell street. After being introduced to your local guide and your fellow travellers we move off to the first stop on our Pub Tour.

Recently pedestrianised, Capel street has become a hub at nighttime for Dubliners and visitors alike to enjoy Dublin's famous Pub Culture. At our first stop, we experience a craft beer bar serving locally produced Irish beer. Enjoy tasters of three distinct styles of beer from an Irish microbrewery as your guide explains how the beer is made and how you get the wonderful different flavours.

On our second stop, we visit a beautiful old Victorian close to the river for a glass of Guinness. Listen as your guide explains why Guinness tastes different and is so much creamier in Ireland compares to other places.

To finish, we will have a taster of a delicious craft Irish gin and tonic from a micro-distillery in County Cork.

Disappointed
The group itself was wonderful—everyone was friendly, and we really enjoyed meeting them. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the tour experience or our guide, Sam, as much as we had hoped. Sam’s approach felt more like we were students being instructed than adults on vacation trying to have a good time. Our first stop was in a dark back room of a pub, and at the second pub, our group of four wasn’t allowed to sit together at a table. We were told to find seats among people we didn’t know, even though there was a perfectly good table for four available. Since we had traveled from Texas together, we had hoped to enjoy Ireland as a group. We ultimately decided to leave early. We really enjoyed the people in the group and wish the overall tour experience had been as enjoyable.

Not a Great Experience
The other guests were great, and we enjoyed meeting people from different parts of the world. The tour itself, however, felt more structured than we expected. Since this was supposed to be a fun, social tour, we were surprised to feel more like students being reprimanded for talking or drinking before being told to. At one stop, our group of four was asked to split up because there weren’t four seats together in the prearranged area, even though the rest of the floor was empty. This was fairly representative of our interactions with the guide throughout the evening, which often felt unnecessarily rigid. We ultimately decided to leave before the remaining stops. The other guests were definitely the highlight, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn’t a good fit for us.

I am sharing Sam's response to your review verbatim below. Best regards, Peter Hi Peter Just wanted to share my thoughts with you on the above review, left on the 24th and 27th respectively. The group was from Texas and I was a bit surprised to receive it because I actually had an otherwise positive dynamic with Jonathan, particularly at Nealon’s where he told me about the family’s Welsh heritage. His party of four talked during the introduction when other guests were introducing themselves, as well as certain portions of the presentation at The Black Sheep, which I gently requested they refrain from doing (for the benefit of other guests) for another couple of minutes. There seemed to be some internal tension among the group at the second and third pubs. It was a Slattery’s staff member who voiced confusion about his party sitting elsewhere, not long after which the group decided to leave. Once said staff member clarified with me that they’d be welcome to stay at that table, I relayed it to them, but they politely declined and said they had to take off anyway.

Save your money and consider your own pub crawl
We've done many such tours on our travels and sadly this one fell well short of our expectations. Rob, the guide, was late and w/o an apology. The selection of pubs was OK but the overview and discussion of the beer and pubs was limited and amateurish. The final pub that offered free Irish music didnt include any seating or standing options, and no beverage ...all in all over priced and dissappointing.
Response from the operator: Dear Rose, Thank you for sharing this feedback and I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy this experience. If I may, I will make the point that there is approximately €29 of drinks (craft beer, Guinness, gin & tonic, whiskey) included in the €42 price so I would submit that the tour is not over priced and I feel that we are offering good value for money here. From what I can gather, Rob was slightly delayed and arrived approximately two minutes before 6pm rather than 10 minutes before which is typical, but the tour started on time at 6pm beside the Spire before moving on tio the first pub. So, apologies from our side that the guide was not there 10 minutes before 6pm. I am sorry that you did not enjoy Rob's presentations. We all have our own style and Rob is quite informal and less technical than some of us in his discussion of the drinks and bars. In general, our guests warm to Rob and thoroughly enjoy the Pub Tour with him but I understand that it is not possible to please evryone all of the time but we do try our best. The idea in the last pub with the music session is that our guests can blend in and chat with the local people so we do not reserve seperate seats in that last venue. Again, I am sorry that you did not enjoy this experience but I hope that the rest of your trip went well and that you are bringng happy memories home from Dublin. Best regards, Peter
