About this experience

The Dragonback Trek has been my signature trek for the last 11 years offering a superb once in a lifetime view. This is a fully guided trekking trip with a cheerful host. Group size are kept very small and personal for comfort and safety from 2- 6 pax maximum. A short 30 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur City Centre would bring you to a local Malaysian suburb. At the top of the ridge expect to get a panoramic view of pristine virgin jungle on one side, and KL city on the other. The whole trek will take around 2.5 – 3 hours (depending on fitness level) inclusive of rest stops and photo snapping sessions. We will pick you up bright and early in the morning from your Airbnb accommodation at 6.30am. Trips typically lasts from 6.30am to 11.30am local time. A fresh set of clothes (t-shirt, shorts and flip flops) would make the experience all the more comfortable as you would be super sweaty, yet satisfied after the trek.

Amazing jungle trek, with spectacular KL views

Amazing trek in the jungle, found some beautiful insects along our trek, the guide was also friendly and knowledgeable, he told us various stories about the place and the history of Malaysia, he also took great pictures of us! The view from the wedge was also spectacular, you can see the whole city and on the other side the lake which is the water supply for KL.

A perfect way to start the day in the green surrounding KL

This trail is really nice and only a 20-minute drive away from the centre of KL. From the moment I booked, communication with Ben has been impeccable. He is really knowledgeable about the region and a great trail partner to have! The view is simply amazing from up there and the local breakfast at the end was an unexpected special treat! I will go back for sure on my next business trip to KL!

Fun family hike

Our family (with 8 and 10yo kids) had a wonderful time hiking Dragon Back with Ben! Ben was quick to pick up on our interests and abilities, adjusting and tailoring the experience for us. We had good conversations, and he shared insights into plants, animals, and Malaysian culture/society while hiking. He was friendly and patient with our kids when they stopped to examine “one more” crystal over and over again. The hike itself was beautiful— jungle forest, rocky quartz ridge and ledges, steep at times. As we hiked, we saw monkeys, saw a huge stick bug, and heard gibbons in the distance.

Beyond the snake sign!

Great morning with Ben! Hike and timing were perfect. Quick snack on the way back topped off the excellent morning. Views were excellent. Time well spent. A KL top 10! Thanks Ben!!

Go for it!

We booked this trip last minute with Ben and we do not regret it. Ben was a great guide from start to end. He picked us up, took us to the hiking point, then to breakfast/brunch and dropped us off at the Batu Caves. He was well equipped and we felt safe in his hands. Thanks for a great hike/tour!

Dragonback Trek: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kuala Lumpur.

How much does Dragonback Trek cost?

+

Prices start at $300 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kuala Lumpur usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Dragonback Trek take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kuala Lumpur is not rushed.

Is Dragonback Trek worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kuala Lumpur, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Dragonback Trek?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Dragonback Trek suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Dragonback Trek?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kuala Lumpur can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kuala Lumpur and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Dragonback Trek start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kuala Lumpur within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur?

+

On Outty we rank every Kuala Lumpur experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sambal Streets Kuala Lumpur Food Tour with 15+ Tastings, Genting Highland & Batu Cave Guided Day Tour (SIC/Shared Tour), Private Half-Day Batu Caves and Cutural Tour in Kuala Lumpur. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kuala Lumpur?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kuala Lumpur?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
