    Unpleasant Ride to One Beach

Well I wouldn’t exactly call this fun. There was almost no instruction or time to do a practice run on these ATVs. They just kept saying it was so easy. There were 2 crashes right away, one of which the ATV flipped and landed on top of the riders while they got stuck in barbed wire fencing. No first aid kit, of course. They just ended up riding in the back of the guide’s ATVs, who were texting the whole time. These things are also very loud, so I felt bad going through these little rural neighborhoods, with 10 ATVs tearing through. Inhaling the exhaust of 10 ATVs was nauseating after a couple hours. It was honestly stressful to drive these things as a first timer. Plus there were these obnoxious guys who kept screaming about everyone going too slow, when no one could go faster than the tour leader. They were hard to control and unpleasant. I couldn’t really enjoy the scenery much. The best part was getting to the beach of course. And I stress beach SINGULAR not plural. No explanation or anything about this from the guides.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few points for future readers. First, every participant receives a complete safety briefing both inside our office and again before the tour begins. During this briefing, we explain how to operate the ATV, the safety rules, and what to expect during the ride. Before departure, everyone is asked if they have understood the instructions and if they feel comfortable proceeding. As we offer guided tours—not ATV driving lessons—it is not possible to provide individual practice sessions for every participant. This is also why we ask in advance about each guest’s riding experience. If someone has little or no experience, we recommend riding as a passenger on a double ATV whenever appropriate. Regarding the guide using a phone, this is part of our operating procedures. Our guides are required to communicate and report updates throughout the tour to ensure the safety and coordination of the group. They are not using their phones for personal reasons. After the accident, the guests involved were not allowed to continue driving for their own safety. Instead, they rode with one of our guides to prevent any further incidents. Our company offers several different routes, which are rotated throughout the week. The specific beaches and stops may vary depending on the route scheduled for that day. As this was a shared group tour, the pace and experience must accommodate all participants. Guests looking for a more personalized experience are always welcome to book a private tour, where the itinerary and pace can be tailored to their preferences. Finally, we truly wish these concerns had been communicated to us during the tour or immediately afterward through the reservation team. We always do our best to address any issues in real time and improve our guests’ experience whenever possible. We will continue working to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for all of our guests.

    Great short trip

Im only doing 4 stars because its a short trip. It says 2 hours but most of it is spent driving which was still fun our boys! The 2 beaches are BEAUTIFUL and you get about 20 minutes to swim at one of the stops. Overall, it was great just wish we had more time to soak up the beach beauty

Super fun ATV excursion. Highly recommend.

Awesome experience. Highly recommend the ATV tours. The guides were super nice, we saw some remote beaches and driving the ATVs was a blast! My 16 year old was happy that she was able to drive one on her own. 16 is the minimum age to drive.

A fun dirty ride to beautiful beaches

Overall a really fun few hours exploring some less crowded hidden beach areas. Pickup was fine but the van had seen better days. I think I was bumped around in the shuttle van with bad suspension more than on my ATV. The guides were friendly and great, but really didn't provide much more than leading the pack to the beach areas. The stops at the beaches were short, but allowed a few minutes to enjoy the water. The beaches themselves were absolutely beautiful. My ATV had a few issues with stalling out which required a bit of help but overall it was a minor slow down. Prepare to be very dusty and dirty at the end of the drive. I'm glad we went (wife and 12 year old) but it was definitely a one time excursion if I ever returned.

    Lack of communication

I was exited to do this since it’s my first time in Costa Rica and when I searched for one person availability it I picked the time that showed was available. The next day came and I’m waiting on the pickup point for near almost half an hour because I’m thinking maybe they are a bit late but I decided to call and they said they don’t have availability for one person… when it had been confirmed to me already. I was highly upset because it ruined my plans and I could have went looking for something else had I known this prior to waiting at the pickup point for 30 minutes.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tamarindo.

How much does Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs cost?

    +

Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tamarindo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tamarindo is not rushed.

Is Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 150 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tamarindo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs?

    +

Around 53 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tamarindo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tamarindo and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Discover secret beaches near Tamarindo on ATVs start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tamarindo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tamarindo?

    +

On Outty we rank every Tamarindo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sunset Catamaran & Snorkeling Tour in Playa Flamingo, ATV or Buggy Guided Tour from Tamarindo, Conchal or RIU Hotels, Sunday Funday Tamarindo Party Bus - Beach and Pool Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tamarindo?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tamarindo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
