Its origins can be traced back to the medieval era when it served as a significant point of defense and trade. Their vessels navigated the Dniester River from the Black Sea, reaching Bender from the nearby Fortress of Akkerman (present-day Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukraine).
