    Great tour

Great tour with the guide Leena. She truly cares about the place and tries to show the all sides. We saw plenty of different places to see the day to day life inside if dharavi and Leena had a lot of information to give about each of the places. 10/10 recommended

We’re so happy to hear that you enjoyed the tour with Leena and appreciated her passion for Dharavi and the local community. Leena made it possible from a distance ❤️

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to join the Dharavi tour in person as planned. I was supposed to visit together with a friend and colleague as part of a work trip, and I was disappointed to miss the experience. However, Leena went above and beyond to make sure I could still take part. She recorded most of her tour and guiding, allowing me to gain valuable insights into Dharavi and its community. Thanks to her effort, I was still able to fulfill my professional commitments and gain the understanding I had hoped for from the visit. Her kindness, dedication, and willingness to help were truly exceptional. Even from a distance, Leena made me feel included. I am very grateful and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an authentic, thoughtful, and highly professional guide. – David

Response from the operator: Thank you so much, David, for your heartfelt review and kind words about Leena. Although we were sad you couldn’t join the tour in person, we’re truly glad Leena could still help make the experience meaningful for you from afar. She is deeply committed to ensuring every guest feels included, and your appreciation of her effort, dedication, and kindness means a lot to us. We’re happy to hear that, even from a distance, you gained valuable insights into Dharavi and its vibrant community. Thank you for your trust and support. We hope to welcome you to Mumbai in person someday for the full experience!

A Hidden Gem: Leena, Dharavi's Exceptional Guide

If you're visiting Dharavi, I wholeheartedly recommend Leena. She is one of the most inspiring and genuine guides I've ever met. Leena combines personal experience with studies in Art History and Tourism to offer a respectful, insightful, and authentic perspective on the community. At just 21 years old, Leena is knowledgeable, kind, humble, and incredibly warm-hearted. What makes Leena so special is not only her impressive knowledge but also her kindness, empathy, and authentic passion for her community. She shares Dharavi’s stories with honesty and care, while also showing the incredible work done here by skilled artisans, tailors, potters, and recycling businesses operating at the highest level.. She is always willing to answer questions with patience and insight. Choosing Leena is more than booking a tour - it's supporting a talented young woman while gaining a deeper understanding of the people and everyday life of Dharavi. I left with a much deeper appreciation for the community and feel incredibly grateful to have met her. Leena is a true ambassador for Dharavi, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for an insightful, respectful, eye-opening, and genuinely unforgettable experience. Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authentic, eye-opening and deeply inspiring. Admission fee: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent value for money. Length of visit: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfectly paced – enough time to experience and understand Dharavi without feeling rushed. Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Warm, welcoming, respectful and genuine. Crowd size: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Small groups or solo that allow for meaningful conversations and a personal experience. Leena: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional – kind, professional, knowledgeable and genuinely caring. Tour perfect for: • Solo travellers • Couples • Families with older children • Students • Photographers (while respecting local rules) • Culture and history enthusiasts • Social impact and sustainability travellers • Anyone wanting to experience the real Mumbai beyond the usual tourist attractions • Visitors seeking a respectful, authentic and educational experience rather than "slum tourism"

Response from the operator: Dear Katarina Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and detailed review. Your thoughtful words about Leena truly mean a lot to us. Leena is deeply passionate about sharing the real Dharavi with honesty, respect, and care, so it’s wonderful to hear that her knowledge, warmth, and genuine connection with the community made such a strong impact on your experience. We’re especially happy that the tour helped you gain a deeper appreciation for Dharavi, its people, and the amazing work of the local artisans and businesses. Your recognition of responsible and respectful tourism is something we truly value. Thank you again for choosing to explore Dharavi with Leena and for taking the time to share such a beautiful review. We hope to welcome you back to Mumbai someday for another memorable experience.

Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mumbai.

How much does Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents cost?

    +

Prices start at $9 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mumbai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents take?

    +

Plan for about 2.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mumbai is not rushed.

Is Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 41 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mumbai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents?

    +

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mumbai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mumbai and add a light layer if any part of the 2.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Dharavi Educational Slum Tour with Local residents start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mumbai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mumbai?

    +

On Outty we rank every Mumbai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Elephanta Caves & Island Guided Private Tour, Dharavi Slum Tour, Mumbai: Dharavi Slum & Dhobi Ghat Laundry Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mumbai?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mumbai?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
