What you'll see and do
Devils Tower National Monument
Devils Tower is located in Wyoming. The Tower is a solitary, stump-shaped granite formation that looms above the tree-lined Belle Fourche River Valley. Once hidden below the earth’s surface, erosion has stripped away the softer rock layers revealing the Tower. The two-square-mile park surrounding the tower was proclaimed the nation’s first national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. The park is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands. While visiting the park you are bound to see deer, prairie dogs, and other wildlife. The mountain’s markings are the basis for Native American legend. One legend has it that a giant bear clawed the grooves into the mountainside while chasing several young Indian maidens. Known by several northern plains tribes as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site of worship for many American Indians. Devils Tower is also remembered for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” We are here two hours so you may walk the Tower Trail if you like.

Great Experience
This was a great tour. It was just my husband and I and we’ve never done anything like this before. Nicole, our guide confirmed with us the day before the tour which we appreciated. She was on time for pickup. She was so knowledgeable about the area and had so many stories and facts to share. It was great because you get information you would otherwise miss. She got us to Devils Tower at the perfect time and never rushed us. It was a full day tour and we felt spoiled. Nicole made sure to remind us the day was about us and we were in charge. If your on the fence about booking don’t be. Do it!
Response from the operator: Hi Z - Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a beautiful review of your experience with us! I'm happy to hear that your first-ever private tour was such a memorable one. Nicole is truly a gem, and we are so proud to have her on our team. I'm glad that you got to experience Devils Tower at the perfect, unhurried pace—that is exactly the kind of personalized day we try to deliver. I will be sure to pass along your kind words to Nicole, as we know she will be delighted to hear them. I hope you both come back for another adventure in the future! Be Well - Rich

Devils tower/spearfish
Nicole was our guide and phenomenal. Her knowledge of the area and culture made the trip so enjoyable. She went above and beyond to let us set the pace at each location. It was the perfect balance of her being with us and giving us time as a couple. The picnic at Spearfish was excellent. This is our second tour with this group and both were excellent. Nicole used to be a park ranger and retired educator. Very professional and personable. Recommend her and the operator for anyone coming to this area. It actually ended up being a private tour too.
Response from the operator: Hi NAS - Thank you for sharing your review of your recent tour with Nicole. Devils Tower is a magnificent site to explore, holding immense historical and spiritual significance. And Spearfish Canyon is beautiful (and its older than the Grand Canyon). We are so glad Nicole could share it with you! Be Well - Rich

Devils tower / spearfish
Nicole was our guide and phenomenal. It ended up being a private tour which we loved. She let us pick how much time we wanted to spend at each stop which kept us from feeling rushed. The knowledge of each area plus her knowledge of the different cultures made the trip. She is very personable and used to be a park ranger as well as a retired teacher and school administrator. We can not recommend her and the company enough. We also loved the picnic at Spearfish.
Response from the operator: Hello Stan -Thanks for the wonderful review of your tour with Nicole! Devils Tower is an amazing place to visit, especially with its rich history and deep connections to many Native American tribes. We appreciate your feedback! Be Well - Rich

Trip to Bear Lodge and beyond.
Another fantastic private tour by Affordable Adventures. Devil's Tower was not on our radar before we booked the tour, but now it is a must see. The entire tour inclided Spearfish Canyon, a picnic lunch, visits to Lead, Deadwood, and Sturgis. We had another excellent tour guide, Nichole, who gave us a wonder a full day of wonder. Thank you The Wilson's
Response from the operator: Hi Herbert - Thank you for you review. I'm happy you enjoyed your tour with Nicole. She is a retired local School Superintendant and knows the Black Hills region really well. FYI - a small mistake of the name of my company. . . we are Black Hills Open Top Tours. :o) Be Well - Rich

Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rapid City.
How much does Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon cost?
+
Prices start at $1,049 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rapid City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rapid City is not rushed.
Is Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 42 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rapid City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Devil's Tower & Deadwood with Spearfish Canyon?
+
Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rapid City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rapid City and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rapid City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rapid City?
+
Rapid City is the base for Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse tours, Badlands National Park loops, Custer State Park wildlife drives and Black Hills cave visits. On Outty we rank every Rapid City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mount Rushmore and Black Hills Tour with Two Meals and a Music Variety Show, Bus Tour of Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills, Private Tour of Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rapid City?
+
May to September, with Sturgis crowding early August. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rapid City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
