About this experience

With a maximum of six people per group, you are guaranteed a nearly private experience! Throughout the history of art, the male nude and homosexuality have been catalysts in the development of art. This unique tour will bring you through the depiction on not only homosexuality but also of masculinity and nudity over a period of 9000 years from Mesopotamia to 19th century French paintings.  Although the main theme of much of the paintings in the Louvre is religious, the painters behind them wove a saucy network of affairs and sex - often with each other.  If you want to learn about the drama between Raphael, Leonardo, and Michelangelo and how this manifested in their art and portrayals of men, this is the tour for you!

Sassy gossips and sneaky work arounds

This is a delightful way to navigate the complete overwhelm of the Louvre. Not only is Amehd phenomenally well informed about seemingly everything on the chosen route, he is able to pivot at the mention of personal interests (medieval France, misinterpretations of the Hebrew bible, universality of animal figurines, etc) and show us the perfect thing! All done within the lens of representations of sexuality AND the ways artists toyed with and circumvented the rules. Why this nude? Why this presentation of form? To be clear, NOT a dull art history lesson. A witty, smart and perfectly winking side-eye vibe that queers and challenges a seemingly overwhelmingly heteronormative collection. And yes, we saw the Monna Lisa. She is made even more remarkable for Amehd’s insights into not only how she was painted but the weight she carries as the recipient of so many expectations.

Response from the operator: Bonjour, Thank-you so much for your glowing review! We will make sure to share it with Amehd. You are right, he is such a gem! We hope you are having a wonderful time in the City of Lights! Warmly, Fat Cat Tours

Entertaining, appealing, and educational!

A terrific tour of The Louvre with William! The Louvre, of course, is huge, and even though we’ve been there many times over the years, it was very nice to be taken around to specific and varied works of art in a purposeful way to illuminate the concept of homoerotic desire on display, from the point of view of its historical and aesthetic evolution. Entertaining, appealing, and educational! Highly recommended!

Response from the operator: Dear Bruce, We cannot thank you enough for your great review. It was such a pleasure organizing your guided tour of the Louvre museum. We are looking forward to seeing you again in Paris. Take care, Fat Cat Tours

Best Way to Experience the Louvre

I can't recommend Adam, Fat Cat Tours, and their Desire on Display tour highly enough. The Louvre is the world's largest museum and honestly can feel pretty overwhelming, but we didn't feel any of that. The meeting point was straightforward, our tickets were already booked, and we walked straight past the queue. Adam kept a comfortable pace the whole way through and really seemed to enjoy answering our questions, no matter how many we had. The tour covered a great range, from Greek and Roman sculptures all the way to Da Vinci, and his breakdown of the history behind the Winged Victory of Samothrace was one of those moments where you stop and think I might have just breezed past that. The headsets were clear and reliable too, which really mattered in some of the more packed galleries. If you're visiting the Louvre and actually want to learn the history of what you're looking at rather than just shuffle through, definitely book this tour. We can’t wait to plan our next trip to Paris and book another tour with Adam at Fat Cat Tours!

Response from the operator: Dear Matt, We are so glad that you loved your Desire on Display Tour with Adam. It is definitely one of our favorite tours in Paris! Thanks a lot for booking with us! Take care, Fat Cat Tours

Educational and Engaging LGBTQ+ History Tour!

My partner and I had a phenomenal time on the private LGBTQ+ History of the Louvre tour with Adam. He is incredibly well-informed about the art, thanks to his advanced degrees and having worked at the Louvre on painting restoration. We had niche questions about the art and the building itself, and Adam had detailed answers for all of them! He made the tour engaging and humorous, he customized it perfectly to specific art preferences we had (like the Heartstopper courtyard!), and he taught us tips to get more from all our future museum visits (e.g. discerning Roman vs. Greek sculpture, how to identify certain artists’ styles over time). Plus, to top it all off, he was super fashionably dressed. We will enthusiastically recommend him to our friends and book with him again on our next visit!

Response from the operator: Dear Lance, Thanks a million for your beautiful review! We really appreciate it. Can't wait to have you and your husband again on one of our new tours! Warmly, Fat Cat Tours

Incredibly knowledgeable and stimulating tour

This tour was our favorite experience of our Paris trip (the food was a close second, of course!). Our guide, Eduardo, was a wealth of knowledge and brought the history alive with his enthusiasm and descriptive presentation of art, politics, culture, and lifestyle from Pre-historic times all the way up to the present. We could not believe how quickly the two hours passed. This was not simply a tour of general facts but, rather, a trip through time, with Eduardo providing insights regarding the lives of the artists and the context in which their works were created. Eduardo is clearly very well-read and a scholar of history in general, and the history of gay issues as portrayed in works of art of all eras. I highly recommend this tour and suggest you ask for Eduardo. You will not be disappointed.

Response from the operator: Dear Hank, MERCI for your lovely review. We are so pleased to read you loved our Homoerotic Louvre tour with Eduardo - he truly is a gem! We hope you had a fabulous time in Paris! Warmly, Fat Cat Tours

Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Paris.

How much does Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people) cost?

+

Prices start at $189 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Paris usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people) take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Paris is not rushed.

Is Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people) worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Paris, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people)?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people) suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people)?

+

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Paris can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Paris and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Desire on Display: The Homoerotic Louvre Tour (Max 6 people) start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Paris within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Paris?

+

Paris rewards travelers who book ahead. The headline museums sell timed entry weeks out, the best food walks cap at eight people, and the Seine cruises that are worth doing are the ones that leave after sunset. Everything below is scored by the Outty Ranking so you can tell a genuine local favorite from a coach-tour filler in a single glance. On Outty we rank every Paris experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Louvre Museum Essential Guided Tour Semi Private 6 GUESTS MAX, Louvre Museum Premium Guided Tour 6 GUESTS MAX Entry Included, Paris City Center Free Walking Tour (Tip-Based). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Paris?

+

April to June and September to October, when queues thin out and terraces stay open late. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Paris?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
