About this experience
Meknes to Moulay Idriss After lunch our journey takes you 30km north to the hillside settlement of Moulay Idriss. The town is one of the country's most important spiritual sites and a place of pilgrimage as it is the site of the tomb of Moulay Idriss, a prominent Moroccan saint in the late 8th century and a great grandson of the prophet Mohammed. There is limited access to the green-tiled shrine but the myriad of narrow streets leading to vantage points for views over the valley towards Volubilis are well worth a short stop. Moulay Idriss to Volubilis and Fez Leaving Moulay Idriss for the short 4km drive to the World Heritage Site of Volubilis, there are a number of vantage points to take photographs of the town. Volubilis is the site of the largest and best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, particularly noted for its superb mosaic floors; it has fabulous views of the Rif Mountain foothills, particularly at sunset.

What you'll see and do
Meknes Medina
Our Fes to Volubilis Excursion Starts pick up you at your hotel or riad in Fez, the time that would be suited for you. for a 1 hour's drive west to the Imperial city of Meknes. Driving across the plain you will see vast acreages of vineyards which produce good quality wine, much of which is exported to France. You will have up to three hours in Meknes to explore the town including the expansive souks, the fascinating historical sites and to take lunch. Moulay Ismail made Meknes the capital city of Morocco during his reign around 1700; his mausoleum and the Rouah, his stables for over 12,000 horses, together with Place el-Hedim, the central pedestrian square in the Medina, are well worth a visit. The souks of Meknes are refreshingly spacious compared to Fez, which makes the city a relaxing place to explore.

The town is one of the country's most important spiritual sites and a place of pilgrimage as it is the site of the tomb of Moulay Idriss, a prominent Moroccan saint in the late 8th century and a great grandson of the prophet Mohammed. Great day trip from Fez
We had a great time with Nabil. He is so fun and positive that it added a great energy to the trip. He's knowledgeable about the history of the area and has good English too. We drove to Volubilis first and we were left to explore for as long as we liked. Then a quick stop at Moulay Idriss (and a panoramic view) before heading on to Meknes. Good recommendations when asked - and then also gave us space to explore the city in our own time. Great trip! We totally recommend Nabil!

Great tour of Volubilis Meknes and My Idriss Sherhoun

Highly Recommended
Nabil was our driver for a day trip from Fes to Volubilis and Meknes. He was a super friendly guy, enthusiastic and a careful driver. Nothing was a problem and he had no issue with us taking our time at the sites. He was happy to give us insights on things we were seeing on the road trip and we learned snippets of information about Moroccan culture - something only possible when you speak with a local! I would highly recommend him to independent travellers looking for a driver to help them see the sites.

A great day trip to Volubilis and Meknes!
Nabil drove me and my husband to Volubilis and Meknes on a day trip whilst we were in Fez. Nabil picked us up from the Medina and drove us to Volubilis which was great (and stopped off for photo opportunities on the way). Nabil then got us to Moulay Idriss for our reservation at Scorpion House. Afterwards we went to Meknes and saw the mausoleum and some local shops. We had a great day all in all - Nabil was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful (the car was also comfortable!). See you next time, Nabil :) !

Trip with Nabil!
Nabil was our driver for our day trip. He arrived on time to our riad to pick us up. Nabil was very kind and great energy to be around. We were able to ask him questions and he provided very helpful answers. He was able to accommodate our schedule and get us back to Fes on time for our flight. Definitely would recommend!

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fez.
How much does Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez cost?
+
Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fez usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fez is not rushed.
Is Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Fez, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fez can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fez and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Day trip to Volubilis and Meknes from Fez start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fez within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Fez?
+
On Outty we rank every Fez experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Day Trip to Chefchaouen from Fez ( instagram /Photos ), Fes to Marrakech: Merzouga & Ait Ben Haddou, 3 Days 2 Nights, 2 Days Desert Tour from Fes to Fes/Marrakech via Erg Chebbi. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Fez?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Fez?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
