Wonderful tour with Matthew
I had a such wonderful time. Matthew was absolutely wonderful. Was a fantastic day. The tour was very complete and Matthew was very helpful and very good telling us the history.

Absolutely terrible
This was a horrible experience. The tour guide texted me personally and asked to move the day, which we agreed to, but then one of our party couldn’t go anymore and we couldn’t get a refund. The tour guide was a random Boston person who had no knowledge or real interest in Salem. He rushed us through the day and skipped two things on the Viator itinerary. The VIATOR itinerary said 8-9 hours but our tour guide took us home after 5.5 hours. When I tried to tell him that he skipped things on the itinerary, he told me that we saw those things while on the trolley driving thru the town. The VIATOR itinerary had the trolley listed as a separate part from the other things he skipped. He must have had Saturday night plans he had to get to. Viator won’t refund us at all because he won’t approve the refund. We didn’t get to do any shopping and it was so rushed. If you want to go to Salem just do it on your own there is no reason to use VIATOR because Salem is pretty structured and has effective systems on its own and you won’t risk the chance of being rushed and losing money. A massive waste of $800 for 4 people!! Do not do it. ☹️😢
Response from the operator: We’re sorry to see this review, but we do feel some important context is missing. You were notified three days before the tour about the schedule change and agreed to move your reservation. At that time, no cancellation or refund was requested for the member of your party who could no longer attend. We were not notified until after 11:00 PM the night before the tour. Had we been informed earlier, we would have had an opportunity to offer that seat to another guest. Regarding the pace of the day, your group was actually provided more free time during the lunch portion to explore Salem than we are typically able to provide. How guests choose to use that free time is entirely up to them. Your group chose to participate in additional attractions/tours rather than use that time for shopping, which unfortunately limited the time you personally had available to shop. We also want to address the characterization of your guide. Matthew is not a “random Boston person.” He operates these tours professionally and has never received anything less than a five-star review for a tour he has personally guided. Our many other guest reviews also reflect the quality of the experiences we work very hard to provide. We understand that this particular experience did not meet your expectations, and we respect your right to share that. However, the suggestion that the tour was intentionally shortened because the guide had “Saturday night plans” is simply speculation and is not an accurate representation of what occurred.

Why this scores 71
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Boston.
How much does Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits cost?
+
Prices start at $190 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Boston usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Boston is not rushed.
Is Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 97 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Boston, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits?
+
Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Boston can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Boston and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Day Trip from Boston To Salem Witch Exhibits start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Boston within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Boston?
+
Boston is compact enough that a good walking guide beats any bus. Freedom Trail walks, harbour cruises, Fenway tours and whale-watch runs out to Stellwagen Bank are the core, plus Salem and Cape Cod as day trips. Outty Ranking weights guide storytelling and group size heavily, because on the Freedom Trail the narration is the entire product. On Outty we rank every Boston experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Full Revolutionary Story Epic Small-Group Boston Walking Tour, Boston: Freedom Trail History Small Group Walking Tour, Boston's Freedom Trail: A Revolutionary Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Boston?
+
May to October. Whale watching runs roughly April through October only. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Boston?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
