Go if you can!
Excellent tour. Saw hundreds of dolphins. Almost saw a whale but he wouldn't come back. Saw several sea lions in the harbor. Captain Marie, Hannah, and Janel (hope your ok after your fall) were great. They were all so kind and knowledgeable. Would definitely go again. Brownies were amazing as well.

An excellent adventure and experience
This was a very memorable trip. We got to see dolphins and sea lions, and even sea turtles. The captain and the crew were excellent, friendly and informative. I highly recommend this trip for people of all ages.
Response from the operator: Walter, we're so glad to know you had such a memorable experience! Thank you for your kind words to our stellar crew and for the high rating. We love that the trip was both entertaining and educational, and we hope if you're in the area again, you can join us for another day at sea!

Bucket list worthy experience!
Exceptional dolphin watching experience! Captain Marie managed to take us out where we enjoyed viewing a pod of approximately 75 dolphins! We had a pretty full boat and everyone had an opportunity to view dolphins from the underside viewing station. 1st mate Janel provided informative commentary the whole trip while photographer Andy took photos of the dolphins and the excited viewers. I liked that the cost of the souvenir phots goes to a worthy cause. Our safari was Aug. 16th, 2026
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to rate and review us, Mary! We're thrilled you had an amazing time on board, seeing dolphins both above and below the water. Your kind compliments for our crew are much appreciated, and we're glad you found them to be excellent at what they do. Here's hoping the next time you're in Dana Point, you can join us again!

Dolphin watching at Dana Point
The captain and Janel and my favorite - Hannah were amazing and made our trip unforgettable. We really wished we could have done the pod experience but the boat was under maintenance. The company upgraded us to a double decker boat and it was awesome. Will definitely love to book again and experience the pod boat with the same phenomenal crew.
Response from the operator: Thanks for joining us! We're happy you had a great time on board despite us having mechanical issues with our regular Signature Safari vessel. We love that your experience was still a fantastic one, and that our awesome crew helped make the day a fun and memorable one. We can't wait to have you return for another incredible dolphin and whale watching adventure soon!

Captain Dave's is the best!
We had such a great time. We booked on a different boat and then they had mechanical issues so we ended up going on the double decker catamaran but it was still an amazing experience. The captain Elier, the naturalists, Janel & Hannah were truly amazing and seemed to really love their jobs. I was worried it would feel like a tourist mill sort of experience and it didn't feel like that at all. We had such a blast, saw loads of dolphins & all around great vibes. Highly highly recommend this operator! They really cared about conservation, respecting the animals in their habitat and it was awesome to see that in action on the boat. 10/10 will be bringing other friends & fam when they come visit again!
Response from the operator: It's wonderful to know you had such a fantastic time on board! Thank you for the 5 stars and lovely review. We're so grateful for your understanding with having mechanical issues, and we're thrilled that the experience still reflected the joy we have in conservation, education, and experience marine life in the wild as ethical ecotour operators. It's awesome that you saw so many dolphins and had a fun adventure overall. We hope the next time you're on the West Coast, you'll join us again!

Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dana Point.
How much does Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing cost?
+
Prices start at $106 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dana Point usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dana Point is not rushed.
Is Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 901 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Dana Point, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing?
+
Around 315 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dana Point can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dana Point and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Dana Point Dolphin and Whale Watching with Underwater Viewing start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dana Point within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

+
Dana Point, CA packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Dana Point by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Dana Point?
+
Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Dana Point, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Dana Point?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
