    Absolutely wonderful day

Absolutely fantastic experience. Particular respect to our tour guide, Nelson. Outstanding person - we had a person with learning and communication difficulties and Nelson went above and beyond to include and communicate with him. He had the additional challenge of a group requiring both English and French languages, and he handled everything with aplomb. 100% recommended and we will definitely use Green Devil again.

    Disrespectful tour guide!!!!!

I woke up in the morning so excited to go on this tour. The office staff was very nice. Very kind as well helped me plan out a short stay. I paid over a link that they sent to me. I went to get coffee and breakfast 30 minutes before the tour started. I also bought 10 Portugal pastries for others. Being kind and having the Christmas spirit. I was in contact with the office by WhatsApp and told them I got pastries for all and they put a heart icon on it. As the tour driver arrived he greeted me with anger and hated that I had pastries and coffee on me. he jumped out the vehicle and started yelling at me that there is no food or drinks allowed in the car. And was shaking his head and acting aggressive. I understand if food and drinks are not allowed but it is The manner he handled the situation that matters. You can't be aggressive and forceful. It would've been better if he would have said I apologize, but we do not allow food or drinks in the vehicle. And said it kindly. Do not yell and have a child's temper tantrum because I think we all understand if this kind of person came at somebody in a fighting method realistically you will get that reaction right back. I noticed as the tour continued on this was a multi language tour. And he referred to the France more the the English speakers. when you would ask Draute a question. He would say please do not ask questions because he has a lot to say. Then he would not talk for 5 to 10 minutes. Like this is turning into a toxic relationship. As we pulled in to a stop. I noticed other tour companies with much much nicer vehicles and newer such as Mountain expedition, and Trues IRIT I was able to talk to the office of the other companies and they Charged 55 instead of 58. Which was quite amazing because this company has very old vehicles from the 1990s that has some rust and cracks, you can see how old the vehicle is. Versus the new vehicles these other companies have charging three euros less. So then, as the day went on. These other companies didn't have space for me to jump ship with this company and join another company's tour so l stayed on the tour and the driver became slightly kinder. But very sarcastic and gave more attention to the non-English speaking Tourist. then he asked everybody. What did they want to do for lunch? Are they going to go to a restaurant or are they going to have a picnic I responded with I will take lunch at the restaurant. And he asked what do you like meat, chicken, fish, but he never asked me which option. As the tour went own he kept saying the tourist don't know anything. And laughed and others laughed with him even tho it is not funny. he has been a guide for 32 years!! How???? I have no clue. By the time it was lunch time he told me to go find a Place to eat. So l went to look at 3 places. But went back the restaurant him and the France tourist went to as well. but the food took maybe 20 to 25 minutes to prepare. Then the guide said did I not order anything? I said I did but it is taking a long time. He said yes because I never told him what food I wanted so everyone else will eat before me and I must wait. Which I could care less. He was making trouble out of nothing. We finally started exchanging bad words. I paid for my food and stood outside intill I saw a taxi and left the tour on the other side of the island. I deeply hope that this tour operator or tour guide is disciplined for his extremely disrespectful behavior. It’s the manner in which you treat somebody. I don’t think that they realize that you just can’t talk however you want to somebody and then assume that someone’s not gonna have a reaction For me personally if you disrespect me, I am going to disrespect you right back. I will not allow someone to try to intimidate me. Remember, it is me that is coming to your city spending my money making sure your economy is thriving. Without me and other Tourist. You would have no money do you clearly understand that?

    Disappointing trip

Have been on a previous trip 2 years ago with Green Devils. Wanted to see south east of island but couldn’t see many tours apart from this one, so booked it. While the scenery was ok, there weren’t many stops for photos and the driver gave us very little information about the places we visited or Madeira itself. He was friendly but we came back from the trip disappointed. Another couple on the same trip felt the same.

    Ooh jesus, jesus ;)

The car was quite 'adventurous'..but our tourguide Lino was a good driver ;) aside from that, the tour was informative and fun! We would recommend it especially for younger people!

Great Tour with a diverse Programm

Lino was the Perfect Guide, fluent in Englisch, knowledgable, Kind and funny. We were clubbed together With an Lovely couple Form canada and therefore Ended Up being only 4 Touristen with one Guide. Our 4x4 Vehicle was spacious so that we Could Fully enjoy the Tour; With the Option of removing the Roof, which we recommend. We Booked at Midnight Pior to the actual Tour and were Picked Up on time. The Tour offers a Great Variatio of different Stops. Nice Villages, Great Outlooks, Adventurares Roads, insights on island spezifications and some nice surprises. ;) We have spend a total of 9 Hours and did get a Great Impression of Madeira and there is a lot to See. Clear recommandation from our side.

Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $82 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Craters of Fire - 4X4 Full-Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
