It protects 554 acres (224 ha) of which 240 acres (97 ha) are old growth coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) forests, the tallest living objects on Earth. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the forest is regularly shrouded in a coastal marine layer fog. It remains cool and moist year-round with daytime temperatures averaging between 40 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (4 to 21 °C). Millions of years ago ancestors of redwood and sequoia trees grew throughout North America. Today, the Sequoia sempervirens can be found only in a narrow, cool coastal belt from Monterey County, California, in the south to Oregon in the north.

An Exceptional San Francisco Experience with A Taste of San Francisco

A friend recommended A Taste of San Francisco to us, and I am so glad she did. From the very first phone call to the final drop-off at our hotel, A Taste of San Francisco took care of our family of seven in an extremely professional and personal way, always making us feel that we were in very good hands. They were consistently on time for every pickup, activity, and drop off, and they went above and beyond to accommodate our family’s needs and wishes. From our very first conversation, when we explained what we most wanted to see and experience, they put their 30+ years of knowledge and experience to work and created an itinerary specifically tailored to our family. They also incorporated wonderful tours, experiences, and surprises that we would never have discovered on our own. As a result, we left San Francisco feeling that we had gained a true understanding of the city, its culture, history, and character, while also completely accomplishing everything we had hoped to experience. Taste of San Francisco did much more than provide tours. They organized our hotels, National Park entrance tickets, attractions, special tours, transportation, and all the details in between. We simply put our trip in the hands of their experienced team, and they delivered far beyond our expectations. On our first day, Taste of San Francisco picked us up at our hotel for a comprehensive city tour with an extremely knowledgeable guide who brought the history of San Francisco to life in a fun, engaging, and educational way. On days two and three, we traveled to Yosemite National Park. The hotel, park arrangements, transportation, and guidance were superb. Everything was perfectly structured and organized, allowing us to simply enjoy the experience without having to worry about the logistics. On our fourth and final day, they organized an unforgettable visit to Alcatraz, Muir Woods National Monument, and the beautiful town of Sausalito. Once again, everything was exceptionally well organized, and our guides were wonderful, knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about what they do. In fact, the guides were one of the highlights of the entire experience. If you are looking for a company to help you plan a comprehensive San Francisco trip and truly get to know the city and its surroundings, I highly recommend Taste of San Francisco. Their knowledge, professionalism, attention to detail, and personalized service are truly top-tier. They gave us something incredibly valuable: the peace of mind to travel with confidence, knowing that every detail was being taken care of. Thank you, Taste of San Francisco, for making our family trip such a memorable experience. We could not have asked for a better way to discover San Francisco!

    This wa a great tour!

This was a fantastic tour. It was informative andenjoyable. The tour guide went out of his way for us. I was using a walker which could have been awkward, but he made it as easy as possible. It was also interesting to learn of the history of John Muir, Sausalito and San Francisco. I would highly recommend!

Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Francisco.

How much does Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito cost?

    +

Prices start at $169 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Francisco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Francisco is not rushed.

Is Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 134 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Francisco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito?

    +

Around 47 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Francisco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Francisco and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Combo Small-Group Tour: SF City plus Muir Woods & Sausalito start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Francisco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in San Francisco?

    +

San Francisco packs Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Napa and the bay into day-trip range, which makes booking order matter more than anywhere else in the US. Alcatraz sells out weeks ahead, wine-country vans fill on weekends, and the best food walks in the Mission and Chinatown cap at a dozen people. Our ranking favours small groups and guides who live in the neighbourhood they walk. On Outty we rank every San Francisco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge Muir Woods Sausalito with Optional Alcatraz, Chinatown, North Beach, Little Italy: 7 Tastings & History. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit San Francisco?

    +

September and October, the city's real summer, once the fog season breaks. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in San Francisco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
