Great visit to the colosseum and Roman forum

We originally booked onto the guided tour but unfortunately the time slot was adjusted a week before and therefore we couldn’t attend anymore. As it was only a week before we travelled there was limited options left so we had to go with the audio guide tour. It’s done using an app on your phone and you have to find the correct number to play the correct part which was a bit tricky to do on your own. I wish we could have done the guided tour as I think it would have been so much better to have been told about everything that happened by a real person. I think it wasn’t as good as it could have been just having the pre recorded audio guide. We had tickets to the arena too but honestly it wasn’t necessary as I think the view from the upper floor was just as good if not better than the arena. Definitely worth a visit though. Also the Roman forum is amazing. We didn’t realize quite how much there was to see and how big it all was. We went 1.5 hours before our colosseum timed entry but didn’t have nearly enough time, easily could have spent 3 hours there casually walking and taking it all in. That was just as impressive in my opinion.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Hayley! We're glad you enjoyed the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Sorry the guided tour time adjustment (due to Colosseum rules) pushed you to the audio option – we know a live guide adds more. The app can be tricky; we'll clarify instructions. Arena access is a nice bonus, but we agree the upper views are spectacular. And yes – the Forum/Palatine need at least 3 hours to fully appreciate! Thanks for sharing your helpful tips! Sincerely, Customer Support Team

Colosseum chaos entry

Instructions were lacking on meeting the tour rep as I already had the tickets! Then entry to the colosseum requires photo I.D. Again not explained. But once we finally got in mind was blown!!!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your review. We are glad that once you got inside, your mind was blown – the Colosseum truly is breathtaking! However, we would like to clarify a few points for you and future travelers: Meeting point & tickets: Our meeting point is clearly described with photos and detailed directions in the email and WhatsApp instructions we send before your visit. Even if you already had your tickets, our staff is available to assist with entry, answer questions, and help you navigate the site. We are sorry if this was not clear. Photo ID requirement: The need for a valid ID (physical or a clear photo on your phone) matching the name on the ticket is stated clearly at the time of booking, in our confirmation email, in our two reminders (email and WhatsApp), and in Viator's auto‑notification. This is a strict Colosseum rule, not ours – but we do everything we can to communicate it in advance. We appreciate your feedback and will review our instructions to make them even clearer. Thank you for visiting, and we are happy you enjoyed the experience despite the initial confusion. Sincerely, Customer Support Team

Could be better, but was a good deal

My ticket said there wasn't a guide, which was fine. I was sent an audio file as a guide (by Rick Steves) which i thankfully listened to on ny way bc it didn't work in the site. Any time I opened my camera, it reset the audio file. There was also a booklet but that also wasn't the easiest to follow. If i did the tour again, I would get an actual tour guide just to be able to dig deeper. But I still enjoyed myself so it wasn't a total loss.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your honest feedback. We are glad you still enjoyed yourself and found the tour to be a good deal overall. We appreciate your comments about the audio guide. The Rick Steves audio is a popular alternative, but we understand that technical issues like the camera resetting the audio can be frustrating. We will review this with our app team to see if improvements can be made. The booklet is also provided as an additional resource, but we understand it may not be the easiest to follow for everyone. You are absolutely right that a live guided tour offers a deeper, more interactive experience – and we do offer those as well. For travelers who prefer a more in‑depth exploration, we would recommend booking one of our guided options. Thank you again for your review. We are happy you still enjoyed the Colosseum, and we hope to welcome you back for a guided experience in the future. Sincerely, Customer Support Team

Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App.: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App. cost?

+

Prices start at $1 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App. take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App. worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 158 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App.?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App. suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App.?

+

Around 55 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Admission With Audio Guide App. start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
