Good experience so busy around colloseum hard to find guide
We couldn't find the guide ,the tour operator was in touch with us helpful and sent our tickets to us by phone so we could still see the colloseum.

Excellent tour guide!
Giuseppe - the tour guide was amazing. He was knowledgeable, funny and caring. In the very hot conditions he managed to make the tour enjoyable and we learned a lot. The meeting point person was a disappointment, as we nearly missed our tour. We arrived at 8:45, as requested, and she didn't allocate us a group, just told us to wait for a tour guide to call us. As everybody else was getting stickers that allocated them to a group, we had to queue up again to ask the same question: where is our group? This time she reluctantly checked her notes and gave us the sticker and the equipment. Fortunately, Giuseppe was still waiting for us as we were on his list. From that point onwards, everything was perfect!

Poor Customer Service
When Boooked a Audio Tour, We Arrived to See All Other Tour Operators Vsible by Holding up Their Banners Except Viator Tour Operators. We finally Located Viator around 400 yards From Colleseum, Our Tour time schedule had changed from 11am to 11.30am Our Tour Guide had No Audio Equipment. Unfortunately Our Scheduled Tour Didnt Happen, instead we walked in & around Colleseum Ourselfs, Viator are an absolute Shambles!

Lovely guide who is passionate and interesting.
Very thorough full on tour. A lot to take in but that's what we wanted. The guide was lovely, Giorgia. It's 3 hours and we went at 10am would have proffered doing the 8.30 as our 11 year old struggled with concentration but this was a must for us to understand the history. Its a busy attraction and hot but we enjoyed it and stuck with it.

Could be improved
The colosseum itself is lovely, big and full of history. The tour guides literally just drop you off outside and explain which entrance to go in to, there is not a tour whatsoever. You have to download the audio guide to your phone via an app and bring your own headphones. Then select which recording to play at different sections of the tour. If you are looking for a detailed and in depth tour I probably woudnt book this one, however if you just want a ticket in, this is ideal. Also be ware if you book for 10:30, they ask you to turn up at 10:15 but then when they give you your physical ticket it says 11 and you don’t get brought over to the colosseum until about 10:45. So if you want a special time or early time, just bear in mind the one you are booking will be 30 mins later! There should also be more staff at the meeting point, they were slightly rude and didn’t acknowledge us at first. But then when the man brought us over he explained it okay. Also the meeting point must be a meeting point for several tours, as there were lots of people, some with stickers on their T-shirts, some not etc etc. So it was very confusing to know what tour you are actually on and what tour guide to speak to.

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option cost?
+
Prices start at $10 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 735 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 72 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option?
+
Around 257 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Guided Tour or AudioGuide Option start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
