Great guide and experience
The meeting point was straight forward and our guide Alessio was already there, even though we arrived early. Alessio was very friendly and a fountain of knowledge regarding the Colosseum and surrounding area. We covered a couple of miles and there were steps involved, so not ideal for everybody. However, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Response from the operator: Dear Paul, Thank you for your kind words! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the experience and that Alessio made your visit so engaging with his knowledge and enthusiasm. We’ll be sure to share your lovely feedback with him. We hope to welcome you back to Rome soon!

Great tour!
Our guide was wonderful! She was very knowledgeable and shared the right amount of history. She even helped with the extreme heat.
Response from the operator: Dear Jolyn, Thank you for your lovely feedback! We're so pleased to hear that Sara found the perfect balance between sharing history and making the experience enjoyable. And yes, the summer heat in Rome can be quite a challenge -we're glad she helped make the day more comfortable. We hope to see you again soon!

Vincent was our tour...
Vincent was our tour guide and he was amazing. He was knowledgeable, energetic, engaging, and entertaining. We overheard other tour guides and they were different. I would definitely do the tour again with Vincent.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Vincenzo. His knowledge, energy, and passion for sharing Rome's history are exactly what make him such a valued member of our team. We'll be sure to pass along your feedback to him -it will mean a lot. We hope to welcome you back to Rome for another tour in the future!

Waste of money and time
The guide did not have any signage and I got lucky and asked if she was a guide and what company she was with…then when we were waiting for others in the tour we had to recommend that she held up a sign saying what company she was with and she said she would go look for the other guests, as if she knew what they looked like. Once the tour began we quickly realized that the order of where we visited was misrepresented and we would go to the colosseum last which meant it would be very hot and we would have to limit our time at palatine hill and the forum. The guide seemed more concerned with stopping at water fountains than telling us any history or interesting points to what we were seeing…we spent most of the tour waiting in lines and going to water fountains. I wish we would have just gone on our own.
Response from the operator: HI Alayna, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to clarify a few points. Our guide was carrying the agency sign at the meeting point, as she always does. In fact, she regularly receives great reviews for her professionalism and ability to manage groups efficiently. Regarding the itinerary, the order of the sites visited is not fixed and depends on the Colosseum entry time. This is clearly stated in the tour description. On some days the Colosseum is visited first, while on others it is visited later, depending on the allocated entrance slot. As for the stops at the water fountains, Rome has been experiencing exceptionally high temperatures, and during a walking tour it is essential to ensure that all participants remain properly hydrated. In a small-group tour, the guide has a responsibility to consider the well-being and safety of everyone in the group, even if this occasionally requires short breaks. Finally, while many travelers enjoy the social and shared nature of small-group tours, they do require balancing the needs and pace of different participants. Based on the expectations expressed in your review, a private tour might have been a better fit, as it allows for a fully personalized itinerary and pace. We appreciate your comments and wish you all the best for the rest of your travels.

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 223 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour?
+
Around 78 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
