What you'll see and do
Alleppey Backwaters
The Kerala backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast (known as the Malabar Coast) of Kerala state in southern India. The network includes five large lakes linked by canals, both man made and natural, fed by 38 rivers, and extending virtually half the length of Kerala state. The backwaters were formed by the action of waves and shore currents creating low barrier islands across the mouths of the many rivers flowing down from the Western Ghats range.

Great company with a great team
Rajesh and his team planned a fantastic itinerary for the family. All of the team were great and enhanced the experience for us. Rajesh was extremely helpful whilst we were on our holiday, helping with changes at short notice. Nothing was too much trouble and the team arranged some unique experiences for us. We had a medical emergency with our son on the trip but Rajesh and his team made sure everything was taken care of and made all the necessary arrangements for us. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Experience
Old Thoppumpady Harbor Bridge、Jew Town、Mattancherry Palace、St.
Response from the operator: Thank you sir for your valuable feedback.

Boat Experience is Over Rated
I spent a day looking around Cochin and if you like history, it’s an interesting place. Basically, Europeans discovered India when Vasco de Gama landed here in the 1400s, so you can visit the church where he was buried. There is a long history of Jewish settlement here as well and the synagogue and old town are well worth visiting. Also, Christianity entered India through Cochin via St. Thomas the apostle arriving here after the crucifixion of Jesus, so you can investigate that aspect of things in various places if you wish. There is a fort that was established by the Portuguese, but it’s closed on Fridays so I missed it. The Alleppey houseboat exercise was a disappointment for me. Basically, you get on a floating houseboat that sales a couple of miles downriver along with a couple of hundred other mugs and parks. There, you get to spend the night on a modestly equipped tub and eat very average food while putting up with the high humidity unless you stay in your room with the a/c on. Don’t think of swimming, the water’s polluted. Unless you are looking for a room where you can b@ng your girlfriend while the 2 man crew are not too far away, I’d give it a miss.
Response from the operator: My sincere thanks go out to you for your valuable time. Houseboats function in a way where one gets to cruise 5-7 hours in real time, approximately 1230-1730 hrs /day & next day 0600-0830 Hrs. Sorry to hear the cruise experience didn't meet your expectations. Houseboats are one of a kind in India, right down to their construction, designs, and décor, which keep a traditional feel and the place was supposed to be more clean and serene as the number is increasing day by day. As more cruises are introduced, the backwaters become more crowded and polluted as a result. basic concept is one will be able to enjoy Kerala rural life on slow pace and enjoy the surrounding village activities from the boat and the food served on the boat is mainly South indian and you have a choice between Veg & NOn veg limitted menu while on the luxury Houseboats your might get more elaborate menu and options for few continental choices some of the Luxury Houseboat as they are attached to a hotel offers facilities to use restaurant /pool etc. Otherwise this is normal cruise schedule and menu available on board. Its sad that some of the operators promote Houseboat with lots of hype as the experience is top notch and you get whatever you request that's absolutely wrong.

Don’t be scammed
False advertising by this vendor and felt cheated. Very surprised reliable sources like The Trip advisor does not check false claims of its promoted sites .From the trip description it seemed the boat trip started at Kochi , actually the vendor will drive you about 3 hours on busy roads to Alleppy ,which was a shocker. With a little kid it was difficult for us . We paid almost 26 K indian rupee for n a air-conditioned house boat. Right it the middle of the trip as the weather got warmer the crew did not switch on the AC, unless we paid additional 500 rupees for switching on the AC . That was a real cheap move . Overall we take back a bitter memory of a beautiful place. Don’t be scammed
Response from the operator: Sorry to gothrough your feebback posted on tripadviser . to be honest you are the first person to post a negative review about our services however we take it positively and if there is anything that we have to improve we will do so. First of all i am the person who co ordinates & took the trip reviews from you after the trip. I remember you never ever mentioned anything bad about the cruise or services when i spoke to you on your way back to hotel .Even after the Cochin sightseeing you wanted to go visit some more locations in fort Cochin which our driver was able to take you, we never claimed or advertised that its a Air-conditioned Houseboat ( None of the operators do if its AC Houseboat it will be way too expensive) we provide Ac on request and obviously there will be additional cost. I clearly remember you had serious concerns over the plastic dumping and un hygienic surroundings near the Houseboat boarding point as its the area is commonly used for most of the operators I explained to you its the tourism or Govt bodies need to take some action and not like a small operators do . When asked to put on AC our operator said its on additional cost and you agreed pay and they charged you only INR 500 which too reasonable (just to cover the cost) . In the description itself clearly say "Cochin heritage tour with Alleppey Houseboat cruise" and moreover i gave you a proper briefing about the whole programme especially what time you need to be ready ,how long is the drive from hotel to Alleppey (its 1 Hour and half not 3 Hours !!)and duration of the cruise , type of food served etc..you were happy with my briefing even after the cruise while driving back to your hotel you only mentioned about the "unhyginic surrondings near the boarding point" When it comes to the amount that you paid to online portel we got the payment from viator in INR 15750 or equvelent of USD 197 for 2 persons if you want any details I can forward it to you the same. if there is any serious compalints you already had my contacts because i called few times or even from Houseboat you could have called me finally when I spoke to you after the cruise you never mentioned anything about the cruise. We always listen to our customer feedback if there is anything to improve we already tried to do our best to improve that what helped us to survive us till today.

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kochi.
How much does Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise cost?
+
Prices start at $155 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kochi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kochi is not rushed.
Is Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kochi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kochi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kochi and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cochin Heritage Tour With Alleppey Houseboat Cruise start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kochi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kochi?
+
On Outty we rank every Kochi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Local Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour, Kochi Sightseeing Tuk-Tuk Tour with Pickup From Cruise Ships. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kochi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kochi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
