Why Not Try Something Smaller and More Real?

Having been to a large vineyard with a elegant tasting room that catered more to groups, we thought that we would like to try something more intimate and authentic. That led us to Carus Vini, about 20 minutes from our place in San Donato. We were greeted by the owner, Guido, and the young guide, Giovanni. For Guido, this is a passion project after a career in industry. His family had made wine when he was younger, but they eventually closed it down. Giovanni trained at university in a wine degree program, and as part of his degree he worked at a winery in Napa Valley for four months. I believe that all of their wines are organic and everything is grown, processed, aged and bottled on site. It really is a small operation, with the goal of making the finest wine possible. They are part of the Chianti Classico region, so some of their wines are in that category. We particularly liked the rose and the younger of the two Classicos. We actually ordered a case to be shipped to the US. If you're looking for something a little more authentic and closer to the earth and vines, we think that you would enjoy this visit. One note, Apple Maps tried to send us to both ends of a very rutted and bumpy gravel road that runs just below the vineyard. The correct route is on a proper paved road, Via Grevegiana. Off of that, there is a mixed paved/maintained gravel road that you travel about 3/4 of a mile. If you search Il Prugnolo on Apple Maps, it will put you on the right road, just go past them and you will end up right at the winery.

Response from the operator: Thank you Jim for your kind words and for your visit to our winery. We really enjoyed having you and your wife here and truly appreciate your recognition of our efforts in making our wines. We also admired your endurance in reaching us — and the thoughtful advice for future customers! (we recommend using Google Maps for more accurate directions)

    Best evening in winery!

This was the best experience we had! Ilaria was so welcoming and friendly, and even though we speak a little bit of italian, she helped us with a lot of tips and with an amazing overview of the winery and wines. It was such a fun and interesting evening that will be forever with us! 100% recomend.

Great wine testing experience - highly recommended

Great wine tasting experience in Chianti. Guido and his team were great host and we enjoyed visiting the estate and learning about wine production with low environmental impact. My favorite wine was the Syrah (Tespero). Highly recommended!

Friendly, knowledgeable and great Chianti Classico

Tasting at Carus Vini was a great experience and a wonderful insight into not just the wine, but the people of Chianti Classico. Guido, Pamela and Elizabetta were great hosts and it was a pleasure to spend an afternoon in their beautiful estate. Last, but not least, their Chanti Classico was the best we tasted (in my opinion of course) out of the 4 tastings we did in the area. Grazie Carus Vini!

Response from the operator: Dear Stuart thank you for your nice words. It was a great pleasure for us host you here in Carus Vini. We produce Chianti Classico with great passion and we're happy to read that you appreciated our work!! You're welcome on your next trip in Tuscany. All the best Pamela

Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Florence.

How much does Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines cost?

    +

Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Florence usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Florence is not rushed.

Is Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Florence, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines?

    +

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Florence can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Florence and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Classic Wine Tasting by Carus Wines start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Florence within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Florence?

    +

On Outty we rank every Florence experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best tour in Florence: Renaissance & Medici Tales - guided by a STORYTELLER, Florence Pizza or Pasta Class & Gelato Making at a Tuscan Farm, Small group Tuscan Wineries, Olive Oil & Gourmet Lunch or Dinner. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Florence?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Florence?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
