The performance was great and the garden around the restaurant was beautiful. But the food was terrible, the restaurant was far away 45-60 minutes with traffic and the table arranged was next to the performance without an stage and was impossible to see the show only if I stand and move in front of them.

    Poor guide

I was looking forward so much to this experience, however the guide that we had was terrible. He interrupted us during the show and told us that we had to go. We had to rush finishing our food as well we have missed most interesting part of the show - Face Changing. His English was minimal and he could not explain what he wanted us to do. We didn't get a chance to dress in Chinese clothing as there too was some confusion and he thought that we didn't pay for it and wanted us to pay lots of money in order to get it done. One good thing was that the restaurant that we were at was vey nice and the food was good but unfortunately we couldn't really enjoy it much as we were rushed by the guide to finish and go. The craziest part was to "rush where?" We had no idea what was going on.

I did this tour on my final night in Beijing and it was the perfect closure. My driver arrived on time and took me to the restaurant. I was seated at my table and the driver assisted me in ordering food.

The performance was lovely. It started with fan dancers, then a mask-changing performance, more dancers, some singing, a tea ceremony. Well paced as food was delivered.

The venue has an option to try on the historical costumes, which is a thing I love to do, so I opted for this option after dinner. They brought a menu of dresses on an iPad and I was able to select the one I wanted to try on. The dress, shoes, and matching headdress were brought to my table and other tables looked on in amusement as 4 ladies dressed me in this ornate, complicated costume. The shoes were challenging to walk in, but I got the hang of it eventually. One of the ladies walked with me and took several photos around the beautiful courtyard of the restaurant, and those are some of my most cherished memories from Beijing. So much fun.

An amazing place for dinner, with very nice gardens outside. The chinese dinner was very good. We ate flowers among other delicacies... Although the show was well performed, it was a little bit too short. When leaving, we were escorted through these wonderful gardens, by a chinese girl with a lantern on his hand: Very poetical, I loved it ! Our driver, who helped us with everything, made a first-class service.

Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Classic Peking Opera, Local Dinner&Old Beijing Houhai Night Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
