Quick boating trip for Kids
3 kids & 2 adults We tumbled onto the water taxi minutes before it pulled away from Old Town Alexandria. 30 minutes across the Potomac & we were in DC. We could have gone further but time was short. We lunched at a Burger place & got back on & rode home. The kids had a blast standing outside during the speedy part of the ride. No tour guide, just the boating experience…was sufficient for the 3 littles. When we arrived back in Alexandria, we paid a quick visit to the Torpedo Factory Art Studios at the disembarkation dock. What an eclectic group of artists! Worth a look

Terrible Customer Service at The Wharf Water Taxi
Terrible Customer Service at The Wharf Water Taxi 1 star — I would give zero if I could. We had a terrible experience at the City Cruises Water Taxi window at The Wharf. The two girls working the window were on their phones, rude, and completely unprofessional. We had a 40% off coupon book from the City of Alexandria. At first, they told us we had to book online, even though the coupon book specifically says to book at the ticket window. They seemed to have no idea how to use their own computer system and acted annoyed that we were even asking questions. They would turn off the microphone, roll their eyes, and turn away from us to talk to each other. The whole interaction was rude and unnecessary. Once we got on the boat, Addison told us that the coupon should have been accepted and apologized for what happened. Addison was beyond professional, and City Cruises should be happy to have him as an employee. He was also training a new deckhand during our trip, and it was clear he showed patience, professionalism, and great leadership. Unfortunately, even though Addison was excellent, I cannot upgrade the 1-star review because of how poorly we were treated by the two employees at The Wharf ticket window. Their rude and unprofessional behavior completely changed the experience. The price was already high, and the customer service at the window made it even worse. Addison was the one bright spot in an otherwise terrible experience.

Horrible Experience
I would strongly advise against booking this tour. I booked the 12:30 p.m. round-trip Monuments Sightseeing Tour departing from Georgetown for my family of eight. We arrived at the Georgetown dock at 12:10 p.m., only to discover that the boat never showed up. There were approximately 20 other passengers waiting as well, all confused and trying to figure out what was going on. The experience only got worse from there. The company was nearly impossible to reach, and when we finally got someone on the phone, we were told that the tour they had sold us didn't even exist. There was no communication, no cancellation notice, no staff at the dock, and no effort to assist the stranded passengers. To make matters worse, the return trip they advertised didn't exist either, forcing us to scramble for last-minute transportation. We ended up paying a fortune for Ubers just to get where we needed to go. This fiasco cost us nearly three hours of our family vacation, caused us to miss reservations we had planned, and created unnecessary stress during what should have been an enjoyable day. Selling tickets for a tour that doesn't exist and then providing virtually no customer service is completely unacceptable. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration—book with a different company.

Horrible! Did not get what we paid for.
Horrible! I am writing this from the warer taxi. It is Thursday, july 16, 2926 at 6 p.m.. There was no schedule in writing to follow. So, we took the word of the person selling us the tickets. Asked lots of questions. Was expressly told the water taxis run until 8:30 pm. We started in Alexandria. Then went to National Harbor. Then to the DC Warf. From there we got on the boat to Georgetown, It was 4:30 p.m. Plan was to have dinner in Georgetown, then take the boat back to Alexandria, well before 8:30 p.m. Well, the Captain announced the this was the last boat to or from Georgetown!!! So, unless Georgetown was you final destination, you need to stay on the boat. Apparently, the boat between Georgetown and Alexandria, only runs "late" on weekends!! Again, today is Thursday. So, I am now riding back to the Warf, to then wait for the next water taxi to Alexandria. Not sure when that will be. AND we never got to see Georgetown. IF they shared a schedule with customers, and we knew the taxis between Georgetown and the other stops ended early, we would have planned differently! Horrible communication and a waste of money.

Do not book!
The tour guide never showed up. We were looking forward to seeing views from the river. When we got to the meeting point, we reached out to the tour company and got no response. We waited for 30 minutes and still no reply. Of course we wanted a refund. We asked for one and was denied and they would not even say why. We wasted 23 dollars for parking and was not reimbursed for it. 0/10 would not recommend.

Why this scores 42
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Washington DC.
How much does City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass cost?
+
Prices start at $46 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Washington DC usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass take?
+
Plan for about 0.6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Washington DC is not rushed.
Is City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 75 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Washington DC, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 0.6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass?
+
Around 26 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Washington DC can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Washington DC and add a light layer if any part of the 0.6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does City Cruises DC: Water Taxi One Day Pass start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Washington DC within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Washington DC?
+
Washington is the rare city where the headline attractions cost nothing and the scarce resource is access. Timed entry to the Smithsonian museums, Capitol and White House tours, and the night monument runs by bike or bus are what fill up. Our ranking rewards operators who secure the passes themselves rather than telling you to sort it out at the door. On Outty we rank every Washington DC experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Washington DC Small-Group Sightseeing Experience, Washington DC "See the City" Guided Sightseeing Segway Tour, Arlington Cemetery Small-Group Tour & Changing of the Guards. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Washington DC?
+
Late March to April for cherry blossom, or September to November for cool museum weather. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Washington DC?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
