Travel to and from Haines on a high-speed catamaran along steep-walled fjords at the northern end of the Lynn Canal. Over a dozen unnamed waterfalls drop hundreds of feet from both sides of the boat. This is a 45 minute journey each way with a naturalist on board to highlight the sights. In May, June and July, the wildflowers are at their peak and eagles are busy caring for their young on the nest. Beginning in late July, the river fills with migrating salmon, while brown bears come down to the river’s edge to feed. As the number of salmon in the river increases, the likelihood of seeing bears down along the river increases, with a good probability of bear sightings from early August through late September.

We enjoyed this excursion tremendously. Our tour guide, Katt, knew a lot of history about the area, was very personable, and added funny stories to make our adventure enjoyable and memorable. Saw white swans, eagles, and momma bear lu lu with her four cubs.

The company was...
The company was fantastic. We were well taken care of. Our guide Lydia is native to Haines and she gave a unique perspective about the area. Shares a lot of information. Didn’t see any bear but she tried and the guides communicated with each other so I fell if there had been one around, we would’ve seen it!! Definitely recommend!!

Wonderful tour of the magnificent area around Haines
We had a wonderful day with our lovely tour guide. He was very friendly, gave us lots of information, and showed us the most beautiful spots in the Haines area. The sunny weather made it even more enjoyable, allowing us to fully appreciate the stunning scenery. Since the salmon weren`t yet in the rivers, it was too early for bear sightings. However, we did see bald eagles with their young. Along the way, our guide also treated us to a delicious snack. Highly recommeded!
