    A great tour with...

A great tour with combination of hiking and floating. Learnt alot about the berries and wildlife in the area. Suggest checking people's walking ability - we had a very slow couple that couldn't keep up with the group so we all had to walk at their pace (far too slow for normal fitness level).

Fantastic intro to Skagway off the beaten path

Glad we skipped the train and opted for this excursion. Our guide Joe was waiting at the end of the dock with signage to greet us. (This may not seem like a big deal until you have to hunt down an excursion provider) The group was small and we were advised on exactly what to expect. Stopped for a photo op at a lookout in the drive to the hike. The hike is rated moderate to strenuous, which seems fair. If you think you're fairly sure footed you should be good to go. The scenery was beautiful and Joe provided great commentary and short breaks along the way. The raft float is the perfect way to finish off the excursion. Would highly recommend.

Great excursion with a little adventure.

Our guide, Bob, was an extremely knowledgeable and experienced guide. He was able to answer any question that was asked of him. There were only 9 guests in the tour which certainly had a more intimate experience compared to larger tours. The hike was an interesting challenge but certainly doable for all ages with those that have has some hiking experience. The float was great but I did have a hole in my boot which left me with a cold and soaked foot for the ride. I was glad it was me and not someone else in my family. A longer float would have been nicer. Even given that, it was a great excursion and would recommend it to others as it was unique in some ways. It was also much cheaper than booking other excursions with the cruise line.

    We loved Alaska and Rachel!

This was the highlight of our trip to Alaska! Rachel was incredibly knowledgeable about the local wildlife, fungi and trees. We felt absolutely immersed in the entire experience. The hike was strenuous but the float down the river was so worth it. Huge thank you to Rachel for showing us the time of our lives!!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Skagway.

How much does Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Skagway usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Skagway is not rushed.

Is Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 90 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 599 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Skagway, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour?

    +

Around 210 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Skagway can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Skagway and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Skagway Shore Excursion Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Skagway within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Skagway?

    +

Skagway is a Klondike Gold Rush town built for excursions: White Pass and Yukon Route rail trips, Yukon border drives, glacier flights, dog sledding on ice fields and gold panning. On Outty we rank every Skagway experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Skagway Shore Excursion: Full-Day Tour of the Yukon, Skagway City and Summit Tour, Skagway Shore Excursion: Half-Day Tour to the Yukon Border and Suspension Bridge. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Skagway?

    +

May to September, the cruise season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Skagway?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
