Fireworks Sail on the Windy 😄

The fireworks sail was absolutely amazing! It's a great way to relax and spend time with friends. I didn't have any drinks, so I can't attest to the prices or the quality of the alcohol served. However, I know that I can't wait to do this sail again next year, perhaps when family members come in from out of town to visit. It's such a different view to watch the fireworks out in the lake. Definitely worth the money.

    Great choice

The captain knows exactly where to drop anchor on the lake so you are directly underneath the fireworks. We have never been so close before. It was crazy beautiful

This is a great way to see the fireworks on a tall ship very friendly staff, perfect positioning for fireworks.

A great trip aboard the tall ship Windy. The fireworks display was well worth waiting for and highly recommended! And afterwards I was one of the 4 volunteers who helped raise the mast (quite an enjoyable experience) for us to sail around before returning. The crew were very accommodating. Altogether a quite relaxing time really.

Response from the operator: Thank you for that review, and you help raising the sails! You made the most out of your trip!

    Save your money

This was just fine. I feel like people should know though what they get for their money. This was ALOT more expensive than the other firework boat trips because of the "sailing experience". Quite frankly, that was a waste of my time and my money. I wish I had just paid for the boat trip out to see the fireworks and back. The Tall Windy sailboat is a nice boat with a nice crew, but you pay for a sailing experience that is literally just a slow, slow, slow sail east away from the shoreline, a slow, slow turn around and then a slow, slow, slow sail back to the shore. You are not sailing along the shoreline. Your view of the shoreline never changes, you only move away from the same spot and then back to the same spot. You see the skyline during the initial sail out to get into position for the fireworks and then the next 45 minutes is nothing new, but you pay an additional $75 dollars per person to do it.

Response from the operator: I'm glad that it was "fine", but confused by your rating of the review. "Sailing was slow". with the amazing chicago night skyline, is hardly a valid complaint IMHO, as it is what we offer. If you would like a longer slow sailing, with out fireworks, we offer that trip 4 times a day.

Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy!: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chicago.

How much does Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy! cost?

    +

Prices start at $114 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chicago usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy! take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chicago is not rushed.

Is Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy! worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Chicago, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy!?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy! suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy!?

    +

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chicago can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chicago and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chicago's Fireworks Show aboard Tall Ship Windy! start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chicago within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chicago?

    +

Chicago's signature experience is still the architecture boat cruise, and the difference between the docent-led originals and the party-boat imitators is the single biggest quality gap in the city. Beyond the river: gangster history walks, Art Institute access, deep-dish and hot-dog crawls, and skydeck timed entry. Outty Ranking leans on guide credentials and how consistently the promised route runs. On Outty we rank every Chicago experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Original Chicago Architecture Interiors Tour: Dazzling Interiors, Chicago Murder Mystery Tour, Chicago Favorites Ultimate Food and Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chicago?

    +

May to October. Winter cruises stop running when the river ices. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chicago?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
