A beautiful afternoon on the river

My girlfriend had very little experience with kayaking and I didn’t have much more. Aidan was a fantastic instructor and guide for both of us on the beginner/intermediate kayaking route. By the end, we were able to tackle a category 3 rapid! But before doing so, Aidan made sure that we had the skills necessary. We felt safe the entire journey. I flipped my boat at one point and while my girlfriend laughed at me, Aidan offered calm guidance on how to get back on and avoid flipping again. But i have to say, I enjoyed the quick dip! We also encountered several elephants. They were all curious and beautiful. Aidan carefully navigated us respectfully past them while allowing us to observe and take pictures at a safe distance. In between more technical parts of the river, we also enjoyed the calmness of the river, which was like a meditation. Lunch was great too! Aidan is also hilarious. I recommend this trip to anyone with an adventurous soul who loves dry humor. You will have to paddle your own boat and you may get wet. But there’s no better way to experience the outdoors in Chang Mai than with Aidan!

An amazing kayaking adventure

A truly amazing and memorable day! My friend and I joined the beginner white-water kayaking trip on the Mae Wang river, and we both loved it. Guided expertly by Aidan, we glided through lush jungle and even spotted elephants standing majestically on the riverbank. Aidan’s clear instructions gave us the confidence to navigate the thrilling rapids, and while some sections were challenging, we always felt safe and well cared for. Huge thanks to Aidan and his team for an unforgettable adventure.

Great experience

Amazing trip, we all had so much fun. I would definitely do it again if I came when the water was higher. Great way to see other areas of chiang mai besides the city

Don’t Book the River Kayak

I had high hopes for the Chiang Mai Jungle White Water Kayaking @ Mae Wang River experience, but our guide absolutely ruined it. He’s an older guy by the name of Aiden and from the start, he was condescending and downright rude, acting like he was training us for some extreme sports competition rather than helping us enjoy a leisurely trip downstream. His attitude made the entire group uncomfortable. Instead of offering helpful advice or encouragement, he constantly made snide remarks and yelled instruction at us. He seemed to think he was some kind of gift to mankind, which is odd considering he’s almost unbearable to be around. What should have been a relaxing and fun day on the water turned into a frustrating ordeal because of his lack of people skills and his inability to read the room. Kayaking isn’t supposed to be stressful, but he managed to make it exactly that. If you’re looking for a guide who will help you enjoy the journey, keep looking. This guy clearly lacks the skills—and the attitude—needed to lead a group. I can’t recommend this experience to anyone.

Response from the operator: Thank you for the feedback. While most participants on this trip seemed to enjoy the experience, it’s clear that two guests felt the tone and communication style were too sharp at times. The guide, who has led river excursions for decades as part of a team of experienced professionals, may have had a more direct approach that day—possibly influenced by personal circumstances. While safety was never compromised, we recognize that tone matters and appreciate the honest input. Many other reviews reflect the overall quality and value of this excursion, and we remain committed to making each trip both safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chiang Mai.

How much does Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants cost?

+

Prices start at $2500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chiang Mai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chiang Mai is not rushed.

Is Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chiang Mai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 15. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chiang Mai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chiang Mai: Jungle Kayak Adventure with Rapids & Elephants start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chiang Mai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?

+

On Outty we rank every Chiang Mai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Thai Cooking Class at Organic Farm in Chiang Mai, Full Day Thai Cooking at Farm (Chiang Mai), Thai and Akha Cooking Class in Chiang Mai. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
