About this experience
This is a private tour with a 7-seater van for a maximum 6 guests. Chania since the ancient times was a melting pot of civilizations and cultures, each invader and new town resident leaving its mark on history, architecture and culture. Our guides are fluent in English, locals, know this place intimately and love sharing the knowledge. We will drive around the city and visit various sites for 2 hours, and for 1 hour more you could wander around the picturesque alleys of Chania old town. Will explain the culture and traditions and how they formed the modern day city of Chania. We are not allowed to walk or guide in the old town with travellers, because our license is for a driving tour. Then we will drive through a scenic gorge to an amazing restaurant and have lunch for 3 hours total. Everything is farm to table, cooked on fire and eating is an experience. Lunch is not included in tour price. We will drive through a road with panoramic view of Chania and Souda bay.

On the northern side of the Firka fortress were six consecutive domes, that sheltered the large cannons, so that they would face the entrance of the harbor and face any possible attacker. The Firka Fortress was used as a prison since then and up to the Greek civil war of the 20th century. During the Ottoman rule, the Firka Fortress constituted the seat of the military governor of the city. It is the place where the Greek flag was raised, in 1913, the year of the reunion of Crete with Greece. Today, at the entrance of the Fortress is situated the Maritime Museum.

We’ll be back!
Nikos was such a friendly, informative and considerate driver/guide. Passionate about his country and the Chania area, he brought it all alive for us. The restaurant owned by Stelios served the most amazing food cooked outdoors on a wood burning stove. Eating outside in the tranquil mountain countryside of Crete was amazing. Chania old town will certainly be on our return list. His patience tolerance and level of care was excellent! Thank you.
Response from the operator: We are glad you enjoyed Chania old town and the mountain restaurant. Its a unique experience away from the tourist crowds. Nikos is a great guy, studied business in the UK and passionate about Crete. We hope to see you again int he future.

Petros was fantastic!...
Petros was fantastic! Knowledgeable, articulate, prompt. He was able to give us an authentic taste of Crete unavailable to the average tourist!
Response from the operator: Petros' is a wealth of information. He studied business in the US, is certified accountant and with his brother George who studied modern history in the UK deliver most tours. This is a driving tour where we will make stops around Chania old town and then you will have two hours to explore the narrow streets of the old town on your own, go shopping or have lunch. We make tours out of the box and focus on what interests you, so it's not only a historical tour, but also cultural. Hope we see you again in the future.

Day visit to Chania
We had an amazing day with George. He customized our day just for us and our interests. He was extremely knowledgeable of Crete and its history. His English was perfect with just the right amount of Greece accent. Be sure to have him take you to his favorite restaurant up in the small mountain village. The lamb dishes were amazing and we got the experience of a small Crete village, with children playing and the slow pace. The restaurant owner was so nice and prices were very reasonable. Make sure to let George order for you, his time time spent in USA and UK, gives him great insight into what we like. Hope your day was as unforgettable as ours. John and Debbie S. From Oklahoma
Response from the operator: We are glad you enjoyed Chania old town, Therisso gorge and the village restaurant. We try to be flexible and adjust the tour to the interest of our guests. Our guides talk about various subjects, history, culture, traditions, but also on what interests the guests like business or politics. We try to give a whole around experience, combining the historic old town of Chania, and nature sightseeing with delicious food. The food is an experience by itself. Having lived abroad, we can compare and contrast the US, Greek and British way of life, economics, policies and people, so we can give a better insight and understanding of the Greek life and culture. We want travellers to have the best tour experience in Crete and Greece.

Beautiful excursion with local guide George
We decided to do this tour with my family and good friends of ours with our guide George and the whole experience was just fantastic! It was much greater than expected, we enjoyed our drive through the Old Town, we walked and saw all the main sights that George pointed to us and then we went and had a marvellous lunch inside the mountains! I totally recommend!
Response from the operator: We are glad you enjoyed the experience of Chania old town and surroundings. Our guides do not just talk about history, we try to give a pleasant and informative experience talking about history, culture, traditions or any topic you wish including politics and business. Our guides try to focus in what interests you most so the experience is relevant to your interests. We highly recommend the lunch at the mountain restaurant. It's a unique farm to table experience. You will have a more complete view of Crete, combining the old town and history, together with nature sightseeing and food. We want all our guests to have the best day out in Chania, so we go often out of our way or spend more time touring around. Hope to see you again in the future!

A day trip with Petro, Old Town-Countryside-Lunch at a great restaurant
We did this tour with Petro as a part of our visit in the area of Chania and it was an amazing day trip including a drive and stops in the Old Town and then a marvellous drive inside the mountains with a spectacular lunch at this fantastic countryside restaurant Dounias! Petro was prompt, polite and great to communicate with as he is fluent in English with a Southern accent!
Response from the operator: It was a pleasure to show you around our beautiful city of Chania. Rich in history, it's a pleasure to walk around streets dating hundreds or thousands of years back, with history, traditions and culture intertwined together. We cannot walk or guide in the old town but we can drive around the town and drop you off for two hours to walk on your own in the less touristy and more historic part of the city. Therisso gorge is the most beautiful area of natural beauty close to Chania. The restaurant is a guaranteed experience with local food and farm to table mentality. The Southern accent is a leftover from Petros' basketball and student years in NC, USA. He has the advantage to have insight in the US and Greek culture so can deliver an educative experience between the two nations.

How much does Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6) cost?

Prices start at $580 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chania usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6) take?
+

Is Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 27 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chania, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6) suitable for kids and families?

How far in advance should I book Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6)?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chania can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chania and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Chania old town, mountains, restaurant Private Tour (group of 6) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chania within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chania?
+
On Outty we rank every Chania experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Rethymno Quad Safari, Elafonisi & Falasarna Small Group Tour from Chania w/snacks, Balos & Falassarna Beach - Jeep Tour with Loungers and Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chania?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chania?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
