We booked a one hour bike...
We booked a one hour bike rental for $6.50 each instead of the outrageous $24/hr a rental at the entrance to Central Park. It is the same bike company, just one block south of the park. We were able to ride the entire loop of the park in just less than one hour. The bikes, however, are not Trek bikes as advertised. I had difficulty learning how to use the shifting mechanism on my bike, as it was different than other bikes that I have. My partner had no trouble with his bike. It is one dollar extra to rent a basket to put your water bottle, etc. in, but helmets are free and optional. Staff at the store was friendly and helpful.

We’ve rented bikes from...
We’ve rented bikes from many companies as we have traveled. Unfortunately, the customer service was lacking. Honestly, I felt as if we were a bother. There was no orientation of the area. The bikes were promptly pulled and placed on the sidewalk and we were left on our own. There was no explanation of what should happen if we had a problem. Unfortunately, one bike’s chain kept slipping off and we didn’t realize until making the first hill in Central Park. We ended up walking the bike through the majority of the loop. Things happen but a little more customer service initially would have made the experience better.

Central Park Biking
Experience of riding through Central Park was great. Bikes could use some maintenance as gears didn’t work properly.

Didn’t state you needed ID for pre booked tickets
We arrived at the bike rental store to not exactly a warm welcome. First, they said we were at the wrong place, and after we showed them the prepaid booking, they acknowledged that this actually was the place. The girl on reception was very abrupt and asked to see our ID. I said we didn’t have any ID on us, but obviously I had the booking that I’d made on Tripadvisor and a credit card with my name on it. They said that we couldn’t rent the bikes unless we had the ID or paid a $200 deposit. This then dropped immediately to $100 because I was asking for a refund. Eventually, we agreed to pay the hundred-dollar deposit. The girl behind the counter was smirking the whole time. The actual bikes were not in great condition, although we did enjoy cycling around Central Park. There are a lot of rules and regulations that they don’t tell you about—places you can and can’t go.I wouldn’t rent these bikes again because of this experience and also there are a lot of very rude New Yorkers in the park that clearly don’t want you using it.
Response from the operator: Your feedback is important, and we will address these concerns with our team to ensure a smoother and more welcoming experience for future guests. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

Disappointed
We had booked for three hours. When arrived to collect bikes, we were asked for security deposit of $200. We were never informed of this during the booking and it doesn’t state it on Tripadvisor. Meant we had to cancel the booking, no offer of refund etc. Just so other people are aware. This should be part of the terms and conditions on the listing as such.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback. A refundable security deposit is a standard policy for all bike rentals and is outlined in our rental agreement at the time of check-in. We understand this may come as a surprise to some guests who book through third-party platforms, and we always recommend reviewing the tour details and rental policies prior to arrival. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on a future visit to Central Park.

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Central Park New York City Bike Rental: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New York.
How much does Central Park New York City Bike Rental cost?
+
Prices start at $6 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New York usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Central Park New York City Bike Rental take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New York is not rushed.
Is Central Park New York City Bike Rental worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 110 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New York, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Central Park New York City Bike Rental?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Central Park New York City Bike Rental suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Central Park New York City Bike Rental?
+
Around 39 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New York can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New York and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Central Park New York City Bike Rental start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New York within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New York?
+
New York has more bookable experiences than any other city on Outty, and the quality spread is brutal. Observation decks are commoditised, so we score them on timed-entry reliability and sunset slots. Food tours and borough walks are where the ranking really separates operators, and the top scores in the city all come from small-group guides. On Outty we rank every New York experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Grand Canyon VIP Helicopter Tour, Half-Day Bus Tour of NYC Top Highlights, NYC Bus Tour of Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens: Art, Food & Sports. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New York?
+
September to early November, and late April through June. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New York?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
