First ever ski resort experience, disappointing
As a beginner, I knew nothing about skiing or the process once entering the ski resort. We booked for the beginners package. So I joined the long queue and was told to go over to the ski hire section and work myself down the line to collect all the necessary gear. So I get to the clothing and they couldn’t find a pair of pants that fitted me. They said “ Oh sorry we are out of that size and nothing we can do but we can give you a refund”. Trouble is that would have mean waiting 6 hours for the bus to come and our day trip cancelled because they couldn’t keep up with their supply and demand. We were so disappointed and spoke with the manager who again said sorry nothing they can’t do about it. We would have happily bought a pair from the shop but the point was, we were beginners and just trying out the sport to for fun. Eventually, they found a pair that fitted, but it was time consuming and emotional to have to go through that, right at the start of the day. We were given 2 coffee vouchers for our troubles. Then by the time the rest of the hire gear was given out it was 11.00am and had to wait 1/2 an hour for the next beginners instructor. The instructor himself was friendly and helpful but trouble was there was 10 of us and a long time waiting around for a turn. It was a disappointing day, where as I’m sure it didn’t need to be that way.

A great day on the snow
Was a fantastic full day adventure for the family. I would highly recommend booking private lessons if you are a first timer as they have a designated line for the carpet lift up the slope. Organise your lift passes and snow gear the day before and opt to get the coach up to the mountain from the Camo St shop on the morning of your trip. You won’t have to then collect your snow gear the day before and take back to your accom. They can then be dropped back off at the shop after your tour. I would also recommend buying a balaclava to wear under your helmet. Our instructor Alex B was brilliant with our group. Obtaining lunch and finding a spot to each was a challenge with my daughter having to sit on the floor in the corridor to eat. Be prepared for a very overwhelming start to your day trying to find spots to put your boots on and get onto the snow. Well worth the effort though. A special mention to our driver Peanut who was just sensational.

Great for beginners
Great time for everyone! The instructors were amazing, and all the staff were so helpful. It was easy to get onto the mountain from Queenstown, pickup our rental gear, find the instructor and get started. They had some great food and drink options on the mountain, as well as spots to sit and enjoy the view if you wanted a break Or skiing just wasn’t for you.
Response from the operator: Sounds like a great day of hitting the slopes and soaking up the views. Thanks for spending the day with us!

Brilliant instructors!
Ski instructors Rory and Sophie were amazing instructors. Rory was brilliant and patient with the kids, Sophie was outstanding with my wife. Both helping create a love for the sport, the mountain and the company. True role models who exude knowledge and experience. Highly recommend lessons with either instructor. Thank you!!!
Response from the operator: This warms our hearts. Helping people fall in love with the mountains is why we do what we do, so thank you for sharing your experience. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words to Rory and Sophie!

Great first time on the snow
Great first time experience snowboarding. The process of getting our rental equipment was hassle free and easy. The snowboarding lessons were very fun and enjoyable. Our instructor, James, was a very friendly and knowledgeable guy. He took us through the basics and gave each of us specific advice and how to improve. He allowed us to progress at a pace that was comfortable and enjoyable for each individual. He was very enthusiastic and passionate about the sport. As someone who never touched a snowboard, I was able to go down the slope, able to stop and change direction (which i think still needs work but still much much better than when i first started). Overall, a very good package and a very good experience.
Response from the operator: Woohoo - congratulations on your first time snowboarding! We stoked to hear that you enjoyed your day up the mountain, learning how to get down the slopes with James. We hope to see you up here again shredding soon.

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Cardrona First Timer Package: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.
How much does Cardrona First Timer Package cost?
+
Prices start at $249 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cardrona First Timer Package take?
+
Plan for about 24 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.
Is Cardrona First Timer Package worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cardrona First Timer Package?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Cardrona First Timer Package suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 24-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Cardrona First Timer Package?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 24-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cardrona First Timer Package start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Queenstown?
+
On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Queenstown?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Queenstown?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
