An Unforgettable Journey Along the Great Wall – Absolutely Exceptional!

This was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our trip to China. The 6 km hike took around 3.5 hours and was an absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. Starting and finishing in Chenjiabao, we explored a historic, unrestored section of the Great Wall, which made the experience feel incredibly authentic. Far away from the heavily restored and crowded tourist sections, we could really appreciate the history and character of the Wall. The route itself was fantastic, with beautiful views created by the way the Wall winds through the mountains. Around every corner, there was another breathtaking perspective. Our guide was exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. He explained so many interesting details about the Wall, its history, and the surrounding area, making the hike much more than just a walk. He was also very attentive throughout the entire tour and made us feel comfortable and well looked after. The driver deserves a special mention as well. He drove very safely, calmly, and comfortably, which made the journey to and from the hike completely stress-free. After the hike, we were treated to a delicious lunch with drinks, which was the perfect way to finish an already fantastic day. Everything was perfectly organized, from the transportation and hiking route to the guide and lunch. I genuinely couldn't have wished for a better experience. If you're looking for an authentic, scenic, and unforgettable experience on the Great Wall away from the typical tourist crowds, I can recommend this tour without hesitation.

    An unforgettable Great Wall experience

We had an amazing 2 day hike and camp on the Great Wall. Our guide David and driver Chen, were super knowledgeable and took great care of us at all times. David went out of his way to ensure we had the best time and were safe as the second day hike was a bit technical, but the views and the memories will last a lifetime! Each meal included was very tasty and Chen always gave us plenty of water and fruit. Do not hesitate to book this experience!

    An amazing experience

This was an amazing experience! The tour guide had excellent knowledge of the history of the wall and was very helpful in setting up our tent and returning us to a train station the next day at our request. We didn’t see one other tourist the whole time and got to experience a part of the wall in total seclusion. Highly recommend.

    Camp on the Great Wall

We had a great experience! Camping on the great wall and see the sunset and sunrise from this beautiful spot is amazing. The views were outstanding and our guide Tim was so friendly and took us for a lovely meal at a farmer’s family. So tasty! He brought some snacks for the night and we stopped at a shop to buy some drinks. It’s amazing to be there at night. Just hearing some dogs far away and the wind that blows by your tent. For breakfast we went to another small village and had a local breakfast. We highly recommend this tour!

Worth every cent, couldn’t recommend any higher

If visiting China and the Great Wall this is worth every cent. Definitely the highlight of our time in China. Joe was so easy to communicate with and he made it so seamless and easy to book. Tim our guide was very knowledgeable, accommodated for us very well. We didn’t see a soul on the wall for two days, it was completely ours which was awesome. It wasn’t just all about the wall, Tim knew I liked trying local foods also so he took us to some local little restaurants and ordered the best meals. Tim and the team made this trip very special, even when the weather wasn’t our friend the first day we still had a blast. Camping on the wall was awesome and Tim was always there to take the perfect photos of me and the Mrs. I couldn’t recommend these guys any higher, I did a lot of research when booking a hike and this didn’t disappoint.

camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall cost?

    +

Prices start at $250 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall take?

    +

Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 48-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does camp on the Great Wall overnight with sunrise and sunset on the wall start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
