Crafted Tours Romania - For a trip of a Lifetime!

We visited Romania in August, 2024 and again in May, 2025 using Toni Tatar's company both times. We found this company amazing to work with. Toni is very professional, knowledgeable, kind, thorough, and an absolute joy to spend time with. He knows Romania inside and out and made it's history come alive for us. We stayed at lovely hotels that were incredibly reasonable and ate at the most delicious restaurants with high quality food that was very affordable. There was no detail that was left to chance and we were in very capable hands. We learned so much about this beautiful country, it's welcoming and friendly people, and their very complicated history. We took the Transylvania in-depth tour that included beautiful old castles, lovely and quaint historic old cities, Roman ruins, and beautiful drives through the Romanian countryside. This tour also included the most stunning mountainous drive over Transfagarasan Road . This is a spectacular drive that should not be missed. It has lots of hairpin curves, bridges, tunnels, lakes and wild brown bears! We also took the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina and Transylvania Tour. The Monasteries are filled with frescoes that are well preserved masterpieces of religious art that are over 500 years old. It is a history lesson and I found it to be a spiritual experience as well. This is an awesome tour! If you are fortunate enough to visit Romania make sure you contact Crafted Tours Romania to be your trusted guide/friend for an adventure of a lifetime. This will be one decision you will never regret. Happy and safe travels!!

Response from the operator: Dear Traveler, Wow — thank you so much for your incredible review! We are truly honored that you chose Crafted Tours Romania for not just one, but two trips, and that both experiences left such a lasting impression. Toni will be thrilled to hear your kind words — his passion is bringing Romania’s history, culture, and natural beauty to life, and it’s wonderful to know that you felt well cared for every step of the way. From Transylvania’s castles and Roman ruins to the stunning Transfăgărășan drive and the spiritual beauty of Bucovina’s painted monasteries, it sounds like you fully embraced everything our country has to offer. Your recommendation means the world to us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon for yet another unforgettable Romanian adventure! Warm regards, Crafted Tours Romania

Traveling through beautiful country to painted monasteries and much more.

We went on a great adventure with Marius!! We rode in a comfortable, new Van. The painted monasteries were beautiful inside and out. Everyone of them was special! Marius was so helpful when most of us got ill. Our rooms were very nice and our meals were delicious.

Response from the operator: Dear Traveler, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted to hear that your journey through Bucovina and Transylvania was such a memorable adventure. The painted monasteries truly are treasures—each with its own beauty and story—and we’re so glad you enjoyed them. It means a lot to hear that Marius took good care of the group, especially when some of you weren’t feeling your best. His calm support and dedication are part of what makes traveling with us a safe and enjoyable experience. We’re also happy you felt comfortable throughout the tour, from the van to the accommodations and delicious local meals. We hope your memories of Romania stay with you for a long time, and we’d be honored to welcome you back someday! Warmest regards, Crafted Tours Romania

Stunning painted monasteries tour of Romania not to miss

Marius gave us a wonderful tour of the many painted monasteries in northern Romania. He designed the tour to enable us to see the differences in the 15th century monasteries designed by Stephan I and his followers as well as a new monastery freshly painted. We could see restoration in action of the stunning buildings, every inch painted inside and out and the difference between artists and artisans. He taught us about the art, history and religion of the area, his passion contagious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the painted egg museum. Marius was extremely knowledgeable and worked to ensure we saw the most each day without overdoing it. And he was over the top in helping one of us go to the emergency room for a respiratory illness, researching where best to go and park, masterfully navigating the medical system, staying until far after midnight and awakening in the early morning to assist and then taking us on a full day of touring as if he weren’t up half the night and as if it were nothing. The touring van was spacious, air conditioned and most comfortably and the accommodations lovely and very comfortable, 5 star. Words cannot convey how impressive and fun Marius and his tour were.

Response from the operator: Dear Traveler, Thank you so much for this truly beautiful and detailed review! We’re deeply touched by your words and so happy to know that your journey through Bucovina and Transylvania was both enriching and memorable. The painted monasteries are a national treasure, and it’s wonderful to hear how Marius brought their stories—and the differences between eras, artists, and techniques—to life with such passion. His love for Romania’s history, art, and spiritual heritage shines through in everything he shares. We’re especially grateful for your kind words about how he supported your group during a medical emergency. That care and dedication are at the heart of what we do, and we’re proud to have Marius on our team. It means a great deal to know you felt so well looked after while still enjoying each day to the fullest. Thank you again for allowing us to be part of your Romanian adventure—we hope your memories stay as vivid as those monastery frescoes! Warmest regards, Crafted Tours Romania

Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.

How much does Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private cost?

    +

Prices start at $625 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private take?

    +

Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.

Is Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 96-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Bucovina Painted Monasteries & Transylvania Tour: 4-Day Private start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bucharest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
