Great day in Brown Canyon

We had a great time on the half-day Brown Canyon rafting trip! Cory was an awesome guide: funny, knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and always made us feel safe. The river was extremely low, which made rafting more challenging, but we knew that going in. Cory's positive attitude and great guiding made it an amazing experience. The scenery was beautiful, and we highly recommend this company!

Last-Minute Changes and Zero Accountability

We were excited for our rafting trip with The Adventure Company, but unfortunately the way they handled our concerns afterward left us far more disappointed than the trip itself. Our original Numbers trip was canceled due to low water, which we completely understood. We were offered Browns Canyon instead, and we accepted. The problem wasn't the change in route or the water conditions—it was that we weren't told until we were literally boarding the bus that our group of six would be split into separate rafts. Had we known this in advance, we would have taken the full refund that was offered instead. We understand that safety comes first and that low water conditions require adjustments. At no point did we ask them to compromise safety or keep us together if it wasn't possible. Our frustration was with the complete lack of communication. According to our guide, the low water conditions had existed for days, yet we weren't informed until there was no realistic opportunity to change our plans after driving out. To make matters worse, my girlfriend and I were paired with two guests who chose not to participate or engage at all, while the rest of our party had a completely different experience. Corey, our guide, was excellent and did everything he could, but the experience we paid for was fundamentally different from what we expected because of a last-minute decision that could have been communicated earlier. What was most disappointing was the company's response. Rather than acknowledging that the timing of the communication was the issue, they repeatedly insisted we had "inaccurate expectations" and argued against points we never made. We never claimed groups should never be split. We never blamed them for the drought. We never blamed them for the other guests. Our only complaint was that we were denied the opportunity to make an informed decision because the information wasn't shared until we were already boarding the bus. Instead of recognizing that distinction, they repeatedly reframed our complaint as if we simply didn't understand how rafting works or had unrealistic expectations. It felt dismissive and defensive rather than customer-focused. If you're booking with this company, understand that significant changes to your trip—including being separated from your group—may not be communicated until the last possible moment. If that's something that matters to you, be sure to ask specific questions beforehand because you may not have the opportunity to change your plans once you arrive. The rafting itself was fine, and Corey deserves credit for doing a great job. My low rating is based almost entirely on how our concerns were handled after the trip. A little transparency and a willingness to listen would have completely changed this experience.

Response from the operator: Hi Kyle, Thank you very much for your feedback and for airing your concerns, allowing us the opportunity to set the record straight. Following your raft trip, your emails requesting a refund were quite passionate but not very compelling. We replied to you in a timely and respectful way, explaining that we are sympathetic about your assumption that your group of 6 would all be in the same raft, so we sent you a $50 gift certificate to raft with us in the future. We also offered to schedule a phone call with you to discuss your complaint, which you declined. While we are human and mistakes can happen, we are all still dumbfounded by your complaint and demand for a refund. Initially your grievance was focused on the other guests in your raft. You said they "really soured the entire experience, making it something we had to endure rather than something we got to enjoy". We are saddened that you and your girlfriend did not enjoy the company of the other guests you rode with. This is very rare, and completely out of our control. Now it appears the focus of your criticism is regarding "when" you were told to split your group into two rafts. This is always done between the check-in process and before you get into your raft. This summer's low water has made it especially important to keep our rafts light. In order to properly load each raft, each day, our guides assess the daily fluctuating water level, each group's size, and each group's attendance (groups sometimes arrive with a different number than they signed up for). This timing allows our Guides to create proper boat loads from various sized groups prior to each trip. In your emails, you acknowledged that only putting 4 guests in each raft was the right decision due to low water. Splitting up your group of 6 was done for safety, efficiency, and to preserve trip quality, based on that day's water level, which may fluctuate due to rain or reservoir releases. You were informed at the right time. Your expectation that all 6 in your group would ride together was not created by us. Nobody at The Adventure Company ever told you that you would all be in the same raft. In fact, your trip confirmation included additional language this summer, asking you to remain flexible as we make low water adjustments to preserve trip quality. For decades, people have come to The Adventure Company because they rely on us for top-quality rafting, expert guides, trusted judgment, a great facility, and a focus on safety and guest service. You received all of that. You’ve said that your guide, Corey, with 21 years of experience, was great. You didn't have any problems in the rapids. You enjoyed our new smaller rafts, and having only 4 guests per raft certainly must've helped you succeed on the water. You and your girlfriend shared your raft trip with the rest of your group, who checked in efficiently together, rode the bus together, received safety instructions together, rode down the river near each other in two rafts, and had a chance to laugh at your rafting photos together afterward. We do not agree with your claim that you, "essentially did not get any of the experience we signed up for." We denied your demand for a refund and request to "rectify" the situation because you were treated fairly and received the trip you signed up for. As you can see from many years of reviews and splitting up groups like yours, no other guest has ever made this same complaint. We care greatly about guest service and the overall guest experience. However, great guest service does not include caving in to undeserved demands for a refund. We expected a bad review from you, but we will never pay a guest to avoid a bad review, especially because the nature of your complaint still makes no sense to us. Amazing experience with Corey!

I’d give this place 10 stars if I could. The whole experience was awesome from start to finish. Everything was organized, everyone was friendly, and the trip was an absolute blast. Corey was a fantastic guide. He made everyone feel comfortable, kept things fun, and you could tell he really knows what he’s doing. He struck the perfect balance between keeping us safe and making sure we had an unforgettable time. If you’re thinking about rafting, book with The Adventure Company. You won’t regret it, and if you can, ask for Corey. He’s the best.

Best Rafting Company

What a fun time! The owners Mark and Sarah are amazing and my guide Sylvia was top notch! She made me and my 77 year old Mom feel safe and was full of knowledge! The ride was so beautiful and Browns Canyon is worth a rafting trip with The Adventure Company! Thank you The Adventure Co for a wonderful time:) A memory I won’t forget!
