A superb afternoon at Slane, the whiskey did not disappoint

We booked the private tour for a small group and it exceeded expectations from start to finish. Slane Castle itself is a magnificent setting and it is remarkable to think it sits barely an hour from Dublin. Our guide was genuinely knowledgeable rather than simply reciting a script. He walked us through the distillery and the maturation process in real depth and never once made us feel hurried. The tastings were generous and thoughtfully selected. The Boyne Valley element was an unexpected pleasure. I had not anticipated being so taken with the history of the area but it added a great deal to the day. We booked directly with the operator and the logistics were flawless. Collection and return were seamless. I would recommend this without hesitation, whether for visiting friends, a special occasion or simply a well earned day out. Do arrange a driver if you intend to enjoy the tastings as they deserve.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for this great review!

Best Tour of Ireland you can Take - Without Exception!!

Our group of six just returned from a 5-day trip to Ireland with Mint Julep Experiences, and it was truly beyond wonderful from start to finish. Every single detail — from arrival to departure — was handled flawlessly. It was a completely worry-free, first-class experience. I would give this 10 stars!! Our host and guide, Gary Byrne, was exceptional. His knowledge, warmth, and storytelling brought Ireland’s history and culture to life in a way that made the entire journey unforgettable. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and it shows in every moment of the trip. We explored off-the-beaten-path distilleries, toured historic castles, and enjoyed incredible lunches at traditional Irish pubs that felt authentic and welcoming. Every dinner was fantastic — delicious food, perfect pints, and live Irish music that made each evening special. We also visited Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland, where the knowledge shared about the Troubles — and the opportunity to spend meaningful time with residents who lived through that period — was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The personal stories and historical insight added such depth and perspective to our journey. One of our favorite adventures was hiking up to the Upper Lake, with Gary narrating the history of the trail and surrounding sites the entire way. The surprise toast at the summit was such a thoughtful and memorable touch! We also loved our VIP experience at the Guinness Storehouse — a must-do while in Ireland. The absolute highlight of the trip was our overnight stay at the iconic Slane Castle. From the private tour of the house to exclusive tastings at the Slane Distillery, everything felt intimate and special. The staff at Slane were friendly, engaging, and welcoming. Spending time with the owner, hearing stories about the castle’s history and the legendary musicians who’ve played on the front lawn — like U2, The Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen — was an experience we’ll never forget. Our entire group cannot recommend Mint Julep Experiences — and especially Gary Byrne — highly enough. If you’re looking for a first-class, seamless, unforgettable Ireland adventure, this is it. We’ll absolutely be back! Thank you, Gary and Mint Julep, for the trip of a lifetime! 🇮🇪✨

    Irish whiskey making.

Absolutely spectacular. Gary and Paul are top notch. We have done alcohol making tours in Ireland, all over the US, Scotland and Colombia. Gary’s tour was unmatched by a long shot. His knowledge of distilling, the landscape, Irish food, folklore, and Irish history is an experience that you should make a point of doing while in Ireland. Wish I could give him 10 stars.

Response from the operator: Hi Patrick, Thank you for this amazing review of your experience with Ireland Whiskey Tours! It was a pleasure to host you here in Ireland!

    Authentic Irish Experience

Had a terrific time. Went to Guinness, Jamison’s, Gravediggers, and Cobblestone's the first day and the second to Belfast and Slane Castle. Second day was impromptu but worked with us and put up with our group. Could not have a better experience of Ireland. Highly recommend!!!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for this wonderful review of your experience with Ireland Whiskey Tours! Thank you for booking with us!

Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dublin.

How much does Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery cost?

    +

Prices start at $531 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dublin usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dublin is not rushed.

Is Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dublin, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dublin can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dublin and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Boyne Valley: Private Whiskey Tour with Slane Castle Distillery start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dublin within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Dublin?

    +

On Outty we rank every Dublin experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Dublin to Cliffs of Moher, including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway, Dublin Highlights and Hidden Gems Guided Walking Tour, The Little Museum of Dublin Famous Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Dublin?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Dublin?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
