10/10 tour! Highly recommend Harlan!
I had an amazing experience with Harlan! It was my first time ever, and I left wanting more. Harlan was great, and he was phenomenal at telling stories. Having moved to Boston recently, I was already familiar with most of the landmarks we visited. It was great to hear more about them, and I will think of them differently when I drive by them.

Fun birthday experience with friends
I enjoyed Harlan’s direct story telling style, I know some people prefer heavy theatrics with voices and physical body acting, but I enjoyed Harlan’s style of directly telling the stories and connecting all of the stories that were told to each other in neat and satisfying ways. It was a beautiful night in Boston and nice to be outside while learning about the history of the city I lived in.

Waist of time and money!
have been on many ghost tours in different cities, and this one was by far the worst! I spent $81 for 2 tickets on the Death and Dying Ghost Tour in Boston, and left after 1 hour because it was that bad! It was supposed to be a “walking” tour which ended up being a standing tour. I am not sure why the cost was so high! Some college student in Birkenstocks and a backpack gave a very monotone boring rambling tour- in the middle of sidewalks with many people having to walk through the tour because we were standing in the way (while other tours were IN the graveyard etc. ) this should have been a $10-$15 tour. I am not sure why it was 16 years and older, why it was called a “walking” tour or why it was called a “ghost” tour! This was terrible. We left early, an hour of my life I cannot get back! You really should let future customers know that on your tour- it is a standing in the sidewalk tour, you get to watch all other tours go INTO the graveyards and the tour guide will not be exciting , in character or make this tour scary in any way! I am so disappointed!!

Worst ghost tour
Worst ghost tour that I've ever been on, don't waste your money We were told it was a 16+ walking tour. The guide just told long winded rambling monotone stories as we stood there for 15-20 minutes at the first 3 stops before we just left because it was so bad. I'm not sure why this was 16+, I've been on better ghost tours with my kids field trips.

Harlan was great #bookNOW
Harlan was engaging and fun. I spent half the time jotting down names to look up later.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the great review! We’re so glad Harlan kept the tour engaging and gave you plenty of stories and history worth digging into afterward. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to him. Thanks for joining us!

+

That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 231 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Boston, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

+

+
Boston is compact enough that a good walking guide beats any bus. Freedom Trail walks, harbour cruises, Fenway tours and whale-watch runs out to Stellwagen Bank are the core, plus Salem and Cape Cod as day trips. Outty Ranking weights guide storytelling and group size heavily, because on the Freedom Trail the narration is the entire product. On Outty we rank every Boston experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Full Revolutionary Story Epic Small-Group Boston Walking Tour, Boston: Freedom Trail History Small Group Walking Tour, Boston's Freedom Trail: A Revolutionary Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Boston?
+
May to October. Whale watching runs roughly April through October only. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Boston?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
