Great introduction to Colombian birds
Luis was a great guide and we enjoyed our day of birding at Finca. The terrain was diversified and made for great diversity of birds. It was her first day in Colombia and it was nice to be able to discuss current events and host of other issues while enjoying the nature that the country has to offer. We were the only ones at the farm and the breakfast was delicious. A great introduction to a fabulous country..

Unforgettable & Incredible
Going on a bird watching tour with Luis was the best thing I did in Colombia. We saw 82 species in just half a day! Trust me — THIS is the experience you are looking for. Lots of nice touches make this a 5 Star tour: Hotel pickup & drop off. Perfect communication prior to the tour. I am a single woman who went alone, and I felt completely safe. Hot coffee on arrival at the birding location. Mid-morning break for an excellent, hearty breakfast with fresh juice and ice cold water. Luis will keep track of all the birds you encounter, and also take photos for you so you can really ENJOY the experience. He knows just where to look, and will use a laser pointer to ensure you don’t miss any birds. He even let me borrow his bug spray and sunblock when I needed it. Clean and convenient bathroom available on site. At the end of the trip you cool down and debrief with more fresh juice, water, and a light snack. Perfection. Luis knows his stuff. He is a wonderful host, and provided the tour in English for me since my Spanish is poor. He is extremely professional, yet he is also incredibly kind and warm — it was like going birding with a friend (if you happened to be friends with one of the best birders Colombia!). His enthusiasm is infectious and it’s clear he loves what he does. If you want to see birds in their natural habitat, this is the tour you want to book. Luis respects wildlife and he is a conservationist. His tours are fun and exciting and also ethical. I was able to see so many birds displaying natural behavior - juvenile birds recently fledged, birds building nests, birds hunting for fish, preening each other, displaying for mates. We even saw an anteater taking a nap, a white-lined bat, iguanas, and a cotton-top tamarin. If you care for nature, Luis’ business is the one you want to support. Luis showed me small slice of Colombian wildlife that I will never forget. Thank you Luis! I hope to return soon!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful words and for trusting us with your birding adventure in Colombia! It was truly a pleasure sharing this experience with you. We hope to welcome you back to Cartagena for more unforgettable birdwatching moments in the future❤️🦜

Wonderful bird and wildlife tour
My husband and I had a wonderful day at Reserva de la Cienaga with our knowledgable guide, Maicol. My target species was a ferruginos pygmy owl, which we were lucky to see right at the start of the tour. We saw just over 80 different birds and some interesting wildlife including red howler monkeys and a cotton-top tamarin. We had a wonderful breakfast by the water, including fresh fruit and coffee. The trails are mostly flat and there are bathrooms on site. I highly recommend a tour with this company, it was easy to book and the communication was great. Overall an excellent day!
Response from the operator: That's so nice of you—thank you for taking the time to rate us. It was a real pleasure.

WELL worth the price, would return!!
I couldn't be happier with this tour, we saw over 60 species, which well exceeded my expectations! Luis is an expert at finding birds and his knowledge is extensive, he also speaks english very well which made it easier for this Canadian. What a wonderful time, in this private nature reserve. They provided a delicious breakfast in a beautiful location as well. Highly recommend!!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Erika. We look forward to continuing to enjoy birding adventures with you.

Wonderful Private Birding on a Private Reserve
This was an amazing experience. Although we had to get up early, it was completely worth it. My wife and I were the entire group for this tour. The company picked us up at our hotel, and 40 minutes later we arrived at the finca as the sun was coming up and were provided with coffee from Maria, who lived and worked there. Our guide Maicol was wonderful. He had an amazing knowledge of local birds, their calls, and behavior. We spent 2 hours walking around the grounds before a fantastic breakfast. Maicol pointed out dozens of birds, knew their usual spots, and founds some birds that he didn’t usually see. After breakfast we spent another 2 hours exploring different areas to see some completely new birds. Maicol took photos which were shared with us, so we did not have to do anything but enjoy the moment. We would highly recommend this tour.
Response from the operator: I'm so glad to hear you loved it. We're here to help you and show you Colombia's biodiversity.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Birdwatching in a private nature reserve: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cartagena.
How much does Birdwatching in a private nature reserve cost?
+
Prices start at $358 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cartagena usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Birdwatching in a private nature reserve take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cartagena is not rushed.
Is Birdwatching in a private nature reserve worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 34 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cartagena, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Birdwatching in a private nature reserve?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Birdwatching in a private nature reserve suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Birdwatching in a private nature reserve?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cartagena can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cartagena and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Birdwatching in a private nature reserve start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cartagena within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cartagena?
+
On Outty we rank every Cartagena experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cartagena Antigua & Barrio Getsemani group with audio system, Historic Center & Getsemaní Shared Tour in Cartagena, Cartagena VIP Boat Tour: Rosario Islands & Snorkel. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cartagena?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cartagena?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
