Great tour but hour late starting

Our guide, Ellen, was very good and would recommend - we really enjoyed the tour- once it finally started. The company had missed the booking from Viator and did not turn up at the Garden Hotel meeting point. Kindly the concierge at the hotel called the them (number on Viator booking info) and I was able to tell them that we need the tour asap as had limited time in Shanghai. We had to wait 30-40mins for the guide to arrive so in total an hour late staring. Suggest double checking with operator day before!!

Biking in Shanghai

Biking around Shanghai is pretty easy since it’s not at all hilly. But it does take some getting used to navigating around cars and e-bikes. It was a nice way to see the city and learn a bit about it.

Good trip, well selected...

Good trip, well selected and reasonably quiet streets for views, well maintained bikes. Certainly a nice experience and perfect weather for it (early November). Food was average. Guide had shallow knowledge and little love of Shanghai, but competently guided us through the sights and streets including some scary (to us) intersections. We saw a couple of lovely shopping areas: one old and one very new; I wished I could spend longer hanging out there. A better trip would have had the same time on the road, skipped the random meal, had a little more history, and been less rushed in the market (- I'm not a shopper, but it was interesting.) But, I think the tour has probably been designed to fit a particular time / marketing profile so maybe this can't be helped.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for joining our bike tour and for taking the time to share such detailed and thoughtful feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the perfect November weather and that you were satisfied with our carefully selected quiet routes and the maintenance of our bikes. Ensuring a safe and pleasant riding experience is our top priority. We also sincerely appreciate your constructive comments regarding the food and the historical depth of the tour. We have noted your feedback about the guide's knowledge and will use it for further training to enrich our storytelling. Your specific suggestion to "skip the random meal" in favor of more history and market time is very insightful, and we are actively exploring how we can integrate this valuable idea to enhance the tour's depth without disrupting the schedule. Feedback like yours is invaluable in helping us grow. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back someday to show you an ever-improving "Real Shanghai."

Fun Biking Tour with Ellen

From the start of our tour meeting Ellen, heading over to our bikes we set off after Ellen had showed and told us her signs for biking...Ellen guided us safely through the streets of Shanghai along with many interesting and fun stops. We were treated by Ellen with a local freshly cooked snack and finished our ride with a local lunch. We highly recommend this tour and Ellen as your guide.

Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.

How much does Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food cost?

+

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.

Is Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 144 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food?

+

Around 50 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Biking Real Shanghai& Enjoy Local Food start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Shanghai?

+

On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Shanghai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Shanghai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
